Job Description

Salary: £40,838 - £50,584 (Soulbury EP A 2 - 7, plus up to 3 SPA)Working Pattern: Full time (37 hours per week)Contract: Fixed Term until 31 March 2023Location: Bridge House, Worthing or County Hall North, Horsham. You must be able to travel throughout the county including to locations that are not always accessible by public transport.Interview Date: week commencing 16 May 2022Closing Date: 10 May 2022If you have a passion for improving outcomes for children and young people and are an effective collaborator, join our friendly, supportive, and established team at West Sussex County Council as an Educational Psychologist.Our high performing service consists of four area teams, with offices based in Worthing and Horsham, each managed by an experienced Senior Educational Psychologist. Our service offers a range of support to Schools and other settings, including mental healthsupport, portage, consultation, and training.To respond to the increasing demand within West Sussex, we are pleased to offer much needed additional provision and broaden the range of work undertaken by our Educational Psychologists. We hope you would like to be part of evolving the service to move forward, focussing on early intervention whilst maintaining excellent standards of delivery on our statutory requirements.As a senior management team we placed the development and wellbeing of our team at the centre of all we do to ensure all Educational Psychologists have an opportunity to develop their areas of interest, leadership and strategic skills. We offer inductionsupport, regular supervision and dedicated time for peer support.To succeed at this role, you will be able to work collaboratively with team members and all stakeholders, to achieve outcome for children and families. You will be dedicated and passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people. Your roleas an Educational Psychologist will entail providing support to schools and colleagues in developing educational arrangements that will promote learning and participation in education. In addition to advising on policies, educational legislation, surveys,and monitoring procedures, you will also contribute to courses run by, and for, other professionals, groups, and colleagues in the childrens workforce, along with developing training programs for students/assistant psychologists attending courses on educationalpsychology.Key Skills:

  • Experience of applying psychology with children and young people.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to persuade and influence.
  • Ability to self-reflect and evaluate performance.
  • Excellent time management and personal organisational skills.
  • Most importantly, passion, drive and enthusiasm to work within a strong team ethos that places wellbeing at the heart of your work.
Qualifications and/or experience:
  • An Honours Degree in Psychology or recognised equivalent qualification.
  • Substantial relevant experience working with children in education or childrens services or both.
  • Successfully followed a course of specific post graduate professional training as an educational psychologist.
  • Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development in line with the job description (Desirable).
  • Recent successful training or experience as an educational psychologist.
  • Teaching or other experience in more than one sector of education or work with children and young people (Desirable).
  • Knowledge of applying Psychology in practice.
  • Awareness of the opportunities and challenges in the current professional context (Desirable).
