Job Description

Company Overview1st Line Defence is the leading Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) Risk Mitigation Company in the UK. We provide solutions to the risk posed across the UK and around the world, both on and offshore, from unexploded bombs and munitions related to current and formermilitary land use, aerial bombing and conflicts. We are currently recruiting for an experienced Finance Assistant to join our fantastic and experienced team.Main Purpose of Job:Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Finance Assistant will be responsible for Sales ledger, Purchase Ledger and to support other areas of tasks within the Finance Team. Experience in a Finance role will be required, however, additional training will beprovided.About 1st Line Defence:1st Line Defence is one of the leading unexploded ordnance (UXO) risk mitigation companies in UK.We are dedicated to delivering solutions to deal with aerial-delivered unexploded bombs (UXBs) from both WWI and WWII, as well as UXO related to historical land use by the military. Our services range from early-stage desktop risk assessments through toUXO support to construction projects, site investigation and offshore works. We are passionate about providing services with a friendly, open and ethical approach.With headquarters in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, we operate across the UK and undertake projects overseas.Key Responsibilities:Sales Ledger

  • Raising and sending sales invoices and credit notes to clients via email
  • Dealing with client invoice queries
  • Initial credit checks using both Experian and our credit insurance broker
  • Raise pro-forma invoices where required for high risk clients
  • Producing and sending clients statements
  • Occasional credit control support to our credit controller
Purchase Ledger
  • Gaining approval of purchase invoices from the relevant department
  • Matching, posting and batch entering purchase invoices
  • Dealing with supplier queries
  • Processing credit card payment entries on Sage
General Finance
  • Creating customer and supplier accounts within Sage and maintaining accurate records
  • Ensuring the accounts email inbox is kept organised and all emails promptly actioned
  • Copying/filing/answering the telephone etc
  • Other Ad-hoc duties/administrative tasks
  • Post Office and Bank run
  • Assisting with financial analysis
  • Carrying out credit checks
  • Absence cover for other roles in the team such as payroll
  • Maintaining Finance logs
There will also be scope to assist finance with other areas of sales ledger, purchase ledger, payroll and other general tasks.Key Skills:
  • The ideal candidate would be part qualified in AAT
  • Prior experience using Sage Accounts (or similar system) essential
  • Prior finance experience essential
  • Good skill and understanding of Outlook, Word, Powerpoint and Excel.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with all departments.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Keen team player, providing support during colleague absences to ensure all deadlines are met.
  • Precise attention to detail.
  • Proactive working style.
  • Excellent telephone manner, demonstrates a high level of professionalism when dealing with clients.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively and efficiently, in a busy environment where re-prioritization may be required.
  • Willingness to work on wider initiatives outside of Finance to drive improvements.
  • Ability to quickly forge relationships internally and externally.
  • Ambition to work within an Accounts environment now and in the future.
