Senior Software EngineerWould you like to write software for the UKs latest augmented/virtual reality trainers or 3D mission planning systems for Typhoon and Hawk jets Integrate software into high fidelity cockpit or tank training systems Or develop Air Traffic Control simulations that allow student controllers to "talk down" jets and train for emergency situationsAs a Senior Software Engineer you will be involved in a range of technical projects and tasks across the Software Development Lifecycle including Requirements analysis, software design, software implementation and software testing. You will be working closely with your team and BAE Customers on a day to day basis reporting into the Sprint Lead and Engineering Managers.This role will give you the opportunity to work with a highly professional technical team taking software through the full lifecycle to delivery. Join a team where high standards of work are expected and encouraged, where people are understood, valued and you can develop and enhance your skills and knowledge.Your main responsibilities as a Senior Software Engineer will involve:Ownership of requirements, design and implementation, and test to a high standard, within schedule and estimatesSoftware development of solutionsTesting of completed functionalityAdherence to project processes and software development practicesReporting on progress and providing feedback to team members and leadershipSupporting System Test and Integration ActivitiesProduction of appropriate technical documentationDesign of technical solutionsEstimation of development activitiesAs part of the software team you will be expected to work closely with team members and support the team and/or project leadership in daily activities. You may also be asked to lead teams of up to 10 engineers.Your skills and qualifications as a Senior Software Engineer:Proven competence in:Software development lifecycle and processes (e.g. design, coding, unit testing), and tools (e.g. UML design tools, code IDEs)Developing desktop-based applications including windows formsCompetent in modern languages C#/C++ or Java and Eclipse RCPWindows or Linux target environmentsObject-oriented design/development including UMLDesirable:Experience of mentoring more junior staff and leading teamsIdeally you will have an honours degree or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant STEM subject, although relevant knowledge and experience may offset the qualification requirements.What were looking for in you:To thrive in this role you will have a positive attitude towards team working and ensuring timely and quality delivery of software products.
