Job Description

Engineering Team Leader (Submarines)Business Unit: Submarine Support EngineeringLocation: HMNB Clyde, Faslane, Helensburgh, Argyll & Bute G84 8HLAbout the roleBabcocks Submarine Support Engineering Group (SSE) are contracted to provide engineering and design services support to the Ministry of Defence, and in particular the In-service Submarines (ISM) Project Team who form part of the Defence Engineering and SupportOrganisation. As part of SSE, the Clyde Waterfront Team operate within HMNB Clyde and provide subject matter expert knowledge and experience to all stakeholders within the site, including submarine crews. This creates a varied, exciting and challenging areato work within and provides excellent opportunities for future growth.Based in HMNB Clyde, the SSE Clyde Waterfront Team Leader leads and manages a small team of professional engineers and is accountable for the successful delivery of all SSE Clyde Waterfront outputs specified within the FMSP contract. This includes the dayto day provision of engineering support to the Clyde based Royal Navy submarine fleet as well as to the Ministry of Defence and Babcock Clyde personnel in relation to the in-service operational requirements.Frequently working autonomously with minimal supervision, the candidate must draw heavily on his/her existing leadership and management skills and submarine experience to liaise with key stakeholders, resolve issues and support the dedicated Senior Engineersthat provide classified information to support the resolution of technical queries on all classes of submarine.And as youre supporting our business well be supporting you. Babcock provide support to a range of marine projects so you will have the opportunityto grow and expand your skillset within the engineering industry.This role provides an exciting opportunity to work within the high tempo and technically challenging environment of nuclear submarine maintenance and repair.What do I need to do the roleThe successful candidate should be an experienced leader and manager, highly motivated, adaptable and capable of making decisions that ensure the SSE Clyde Waterfront team operate consistently at a high level of efficiency.You will be at least HND/HNC qualified and ideally obtained from working within a Dockyard, MoD or the RN submarine service. You will possess a thorough knowledge of nuclear submarines, including their maintenance and operating cycles.What else do I need to know about the role* You will be based in HMNB Clyde, Faslane, Helensburgh, G84 8HL but will require occasional travel to the Bristol area and Plymouth.* You will work a 36 hour week Monday-Friday with flexible start and finish times.* The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements.
