BOOKKEEPERLocation: Hawnby, North Yorkshire, YO62 5LSCompetitive salaryFlexible hours consideredPurpose:To work alongside the Resident Agent, Trustees and Group Accountants to provide accurate bookkeeping, accounting, financial reports and other assistance to help manage the Mexborough Estates.To form part of the Estate Office team and help deliver an efficient, dynamic and friendly business environment.Mexborough Estates:Our estates extend over diverse land and property spread throughout England, although largely located in Yorkshire. They are mainly residential and agricultural, comprising of farmland, forestry, moorland, mineral, development and built property interests.The business is managed from the Hawnby Estate Office, situated in the south west corner of the North York Moors National Park, near the picturesque market town of Helmsley. We exist to secure the long-term viability and prosperity of the estates for the future, whilst taking into account care for the environment and engagement with the local and wider community.In doing this we aim to foster a strong sense of estate community, whilst creating a forward-thinking and thriving countryside business.Key Responsibilities:·Day to day bookkeeping for all of the Trusts and Limited companies (14 in total although the majority of entries are for one principal trust);·Managing the Estates’ Landmark Key Prime database/terrier system;·Rent demands and collection, including intra-enterprise invoices;·Finance inc invoices, coding etc;·Cash management, including arranging payments, banking, and bank reconciliations;·Employee payroll and coordinating benefits such as private medical insurance;·Preparation of quarterly VAT returns for the VAT registered entities requiring knowledge of partial exemption rules;·Working with the Agent to develop cashflow/profit and loss budgets, management accounts, enterprise analysis and reporting these in a clear and understandable format to be distributed to the trustees;·Assisting the Agent in identifying efficiencies and cost saving measures;·Monthly cash flow/profit and loss reporting against budget by entity and a consolidated report for the Estate with commentary as to major variances from budget;·Monthly debtors/creditors;·Assisting external accountants, Dixon Wilson, throughout the year and especially with tax returns and year end accounts.Posting year end journals;·Liaising with letting agents to obtain necessary rental information;·Capital project appraisals for the Agent and Trustees;·IT/mobiles/utility contracts/stationary/vehicle fleet management/holiday records and insurance;·Compliance with all policies and procedures and data protection legislation;·Assisting family members with their personal financial affairs when required;·Any other reasonable duties as required by the Resident Agent or Trustees including property management;·All members of staff are expected to be professional, co-operative and flexible within the needs of the post.Other requirements:·The candidate should have a recognised accounting qualification or a proven track record of looking after a diverse estate/property company;·An affinity to the countryside and experience in rural estate matters would be preferable;·Due to the size of the Estate and its complexity an organised approach to the finance function is a necessity;·A keen eye for detail is needed for the preparation of the monthly and annual accounts, cash flow and commentaries;·IT literate, particularly Microsoft Office and ideally a detailed knowledge of Landmark Key Prime accounts and property software or similar;·Full, clean driving licence;InterestedPlease send your cv by return.Application deadline: 1st September 2020; Required skills
