Job Description

MLC Partners is working with a rapidly growing charity to recruit a Financial Controller. The organisation support people across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, and Buckinghamshire through a range of crucial services across multiple communities. They’re a partof a global network who have carried out life-changing work for almost 200 years. Having doubled their income over the past three years, this is a fantastic opportunity to join a vibrant team making a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable people in thecommunity.The Financial Controller is an important management role, overseeing all financial accounting activities for the charity. As the organisation continues its growth path and the finance team goes through a period of modernisation, this position will be a facilitatorof change and improvement. Reporting into the CFO, you’ll play a key role in developing a great team culture, and have influence up to Board level.Main responsibilities of the role are:

  • Manage, nurture, and develop a growing team of 4, implementing a can-do culture and empowering individual decision-making.
  • Oversee treasury, managing the daily cashflow and the cash flow for capital projects, including a major ongoing development of a new hostel.
  • Undertake a review of controls, digitising and streamlining processes, whilst retaining a tight regulatory framework.
  • Lead on the production of the group’s statutory annual accounts, ensuring all financial activities are compliant with regulatory requirements.
Following a recent restructure, this role has been newly created to provide more guidance and support to the financial accounting team. It’s a fantastic opportunity for someone to make a mark on a growing charity, stepping across from a similar or seniorFA role in a larger business.To be considered for this role, the successful candidate will:
  • Have a recognised accountancy qualification with several years’ experience of financial accounting - housing sector knowledge is helpful but not essential.
  • Be technically knowledgeable and confident in managing treasury, tax, and pension matters, providing SMT guidance as required.
  • Have managed or supervised a team previously and thrive in a complex entrepreneurial environment.
  • Know what good looks like’ in a transactions/financial reporting team and be able to implement this vision.
