Job Description

Can you enable young people growing up in challenging and dynamic environments feel inspired, supported, happy and safeWere looking for a young person focused individual with excellent communication skills, to provide young people, who have disabilities and additional needs, with access to integrated positive activities in their leisure time, with the goal of helping them to better deal with the challenges they face in moving towards greater independence.Our Inclusion Youth Worker will support our Inclusion Manager in the assessment process for new members with disabilities and additional needs. They will regularly review the individuals support needs and implement strategies to ensure they have a positive experience at the Manchester Youth Zone.Our Inclusion Youth Worker will also support the Youth Work provision at the Manchester Youth Zone. They will be required to engage with identified young people on sessions and to effectively communicate the support strategies for Inclusion members to the wider team. They will also be asked to take a lead on delivering activities during our "Inclusion Sessions".Youll need to be comfortable using social media to support young people in understanding its limitations, but also its strengths for inclusion members.As our Inclusion Youth Worker, youll work in our busy Manchester Youth Zone ...The Manchester Youth Zone first opened to young people in 2012 as an independent charity then named the Factory Youth Zone. Being located in the heart of North Manchester in Harpurhey enables us to reach those young people who need "Somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk". We currently have around 2,100 members with over 1,000 visits by young people each week to the Youth Zone.We work with young people aged 6-19 and up to 25 for those with additional needs, offering provision during the day for targeted young people and each evening for universal provision. MYZ provides a timetable of positive activities, practical support and personal development opportunities, especially for those who are disadvantaged.We have an excellent reputation in a number of areas including safeguarding, working with young people who are "at risk" of criminal exploitation, mentoring and employment skills. We have invested strongly in partnership working, becoming a community asset responding to the needs of young people and the local community of North Manchester.We work with a number of youth organisations in North Manchester to develop and strengthen youth services in the area. As the largest single youth provider in North Manchester MYZ accepts its leadership responsibility for the sector in growing youth provision across the North in terms of quality and reach. We aim for a rich diversity of provision available to all young people and able to meet their needs.In 2019 we were named North West Charity of the Year!Our Inclusion Youth Worker will be part of the Youth Work Team, responsible for ensuring that the charitys provision is inclusive, accessible and supports the needs of all members (especially those deemed vulnerable or at risk) and provides an environment where all members feel safe, involved and welcome.We have a substantial number of members with disabilities and additional needs, and we need to be able to respond to their needs realistically, understanding what support we can provide and where support needs to be accessed by the young persons family.We aim to be totally inclusive, however, we understand that some carers/parents and young people wish to have closed sessions, so we offer this facility.If youre passionate about providing an exceptional service to young people, wed love to hear from you!STUFF WELL TRUSTYOU WITH - YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Youll assess young people to identify their needs and create a plan for the Youth Work Team to ensure they feel included in positive activities, projects and programmes.
  • Youll monitor the ongoing needs of the identified young people
  • You will work directly with young people aged 6-25 to develop their confidence, social skills and independence.
  • Ensure the engagement and participation of identified young people.
  • Youll effectively communicate with the wider team by regularly updating the communication boards.
  • You will assess, record and evaluate young peoples experience of the Manchester Youth Zone.
  • Keep up to date and accurate records to support other organisations working with the young person using our Salesforce database.
  • Youll ensure integrated provision is delivered in line with the Youth Zones operating procedures and standards, including safeguarding, health and safety and equal opportunities policies.
  • This role will involve working irregular and at times unsocial hours which may include evenings and weekends. The right candidate will be highly organised with strong IAG, IT and networking skills. Our Inclusion Youth Worker must have experience of using databases and have the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.QUALIFICATIONS
  • It is essential that you have a Level 3 (or above) qualification in Youth and Community, SEN, Education or Health
  • It is essential that you have disability awareness or be willing to undertake relevant training.
  • It is desirable that you are trained in First Aid and working with vulnerable young people.
  • You will need to understand the principles of Safeguarding
  • EXPERIENCE OF
  • Youll have a minimum of 2 years experience in the youth sector.
  • You will have delivered universal services and/or targeted provision, as well as a programme of youth work activities.
  • Youll have worked with young people with disabilities and young people deemed vulnerable or at risk.
  • You will have delivered services and projects supporting young people who are disaffected, underachieving or have social/emotional barriers to participation.
  • Youll have worked with programmes that develop independent living skills.
  • You will have worked within an integrated provision.
  • We would like you to have experience of carrying out assessments.
