**PLEASE NOTE THIS IS TO APPLY TO JOIN NHS PROFESSIONALS’ ALLIED HEALTH PROFESSIONALS BANK**Job Title and Grade:Band 8a Advances Practice SonographerTrust/Location:The Princess Alexandra Hospital Trust, HarlowDepartment Covered:RadiologyPlacement Ref/ID: 37670The Role:Would you like to be part of a team that has a real supportive and inclusive ethos and sense of community, working in a location with all the benefits of country living with the convenience of big city lifeIf you answered ‘yes’ to the above, we’d love to hear from you!We have long term placement opportunities available in the Radiography Department at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust specifically aiding in the MRI Team.The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust provides a full range of general acute, outpatient and diagnostic services at The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, the Herts and Essex Hospital in Bishop’s Stortford, and St Margaret’s Hospital in Epping.The trust employ 3,500 staff and serve a local population of around 350,000 people living in west Essex and east Hertfordshire, centred on the M11 corridor and the towns of Harlow, Bishop’s Stortford and Epping. Their catchment area incorporates a population of up to 500,000 and includes the areas of Hoddesdon, Cheshunt and Broxbourne in Hertfordshire.In October 2019, the Government announced that the truest are to receive funding to rebuild a new hospital in Harlow for our patients, community and people.The details around the funding and the timeframe are currently being finalised and we are completing our business case for the new hospital. We are continuing to develop the essential business case plans to take this amazing change forward.Responsibilities:1.To carry out obstetric, gynaecological (including trans-vaginal scanning), abdominal and vascular ultrasound examinations to agreed protocols and standards. To provide written reports after synthesising patient history and scan findings into a diagnosis.To seek second opinion where necessary.Accountable for own professional actions and decision making when acting within clinical protocols.2. Communicating scan results to patients verbally as appropriate. This may be unwelcome and sometimes upsetting news; sometimes inconclusive results requiring explanation of how they may be interpreted (frequent emotional effort often resulting from mainly failing obstetric cases).3. Communicating scan results to the referrer with the appropriate degree of urgency – patient management being dependent upon the examination findings (requiring extreme and continued concentration).4. Providing a very high standard of patient care at all times, referring patients for timely management.5. Reporting any accidents, incidents or complaints to the Superintendent Sonographer in a timely manner.6. To take care of expensive and highly complex ultrasound equipment, reporting faults and breakdowns to the Superintendent Sonographer.7. To take part in evaluation of new Ultrasound equipment prior to procurement.8. To supervise Student Sonographers, providing clinical training and sharing knowledge as required.9. To maintain effective liaison with all disciplines of Radiology staff and staff external to the department.10. Undertaking training and study necessary to ensure a high level of current professional knowledge and expertise is achieved and maintained.11. Undertaking training and study to expand current practice, in line with clinical governance. Assisting in setting departmental protocols and standards.12. Understanding, complying and implementing where necessary all Departmental and Trust Policies and Procedures.13. Using the Radiology Systems, CRIS and PACS appropriately to record patient examination details and images.
