Job Description

To provide support to the Deputy Director of Finance in the monthly and annual processes. To maintain the timely reconciliation of all Balance Sheet accounts, including Bank Accounts, taking responsibility for the validation and maintenance of the fixedassets register and tax returns.

  1. Main Tasks and Responsibilities:1.1 Prepare and maintain the reconciliation of balance sheet accounts as agreed with the Deputy Director of Finance, posting correcting items where required.1.2 Complete bank reconciliations for the College Group, ensuring accurate posting of accounts receivable and accounts payable transactions.1.3 Ensuring that the General Ledger is correctly maintained.1.4 Overall responsibility for the recording of Capital Grant funding receipts to ensure the annual release of funds is match to the relevant assets.1.5 Ensure compliance with contractual requirements for Capital Grants, including monitoring returns.1.6 Maintaining the Fixed Asset Reconciliations. Ensuring that Depreciation is correctly posted within Open Accounts.1.7 Undertake a regular review of the fixed asset register, to ensure that assets are still in use and where required undertaking periodical physical checks.1.8 Account for disposal of assets in line with agreed accounting standards.1.9 Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.1.10 Prepare regular reporting on capital purchases against the agreed budget, along with supporting commentary as instructed by the Deputy Director of Finance.1.11 Achieves budget objectives by reviewing transactional data; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.1.12 Provide reporting as required by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data. 1.13 Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.1.14 Undertake tax and compliance activity in general – VAT and Corporation Returns, Office for National Statistics Returns and Company House submissions.1.15 Work with the Deputy Director of Finance to ensure the month end and year end procedures are completed on time.1.16 Take an active role in the management of the audit process and assist the Deputy Director of Finance with the preparation of the annual statements as required.1.17 Produce the required audit documentation to support the balance sheet reconciliations and respond appropriately to all audit queries.1.18 Developing and maintaining a technical understanding of the Open Accounts system, including the Financial Exchange system.1.19 Train and support non-financial users on the finance system and processes.1.20 Dealing with administrative queries from colleagues and providing a high quality of support.1.21 Act as operational finance lead on cross-functional improvement projects.

  3. Person Specification:3.1 Qualified Accountant or qualified by experience and actively pursing completion of qualification.E3.2 A sound knowledge and understanding of current government policy and key issues in relation to post-16 education and its relevance to the College.E3.3 Excellent oral and written communication, negotiation, influencing, problem-solving, numerical and presentation skills.E3.4 Excellent organisational skills, including time management, progress chasing, project management and the ability to meet deadlines consistently.E3.5 The ability to work successfully within a team and target-setting culture.E3.6 Good levels of personal IT use and a willingness to enhance these skills.E3.7 The ability to contribute to the long-term strategic development of the College.E3.8 An understanding of and commitment to Equality & Diversity and Safeguarding & practical ideas for their implementation in this post.
