Job Description

Your experience can make a difference at Ultra!We have an opportunity for a Production Engineering Technician. You will support a variety of critical projects within the business in the development of new products, as well as day to day Production.The role is hands-on and a mixture of technical support to engineering through the design and specification of test/support equipment, in addition to the construction of prototype equipment and work with Engineering to run test setups and gather data. 90% of the role is Mechanical engineering biased. If you have recently completed an engineering apprenticeship, this may be the right role for you! Key responsibilities as a Production Engineering Technician

  • Day to day activity will vary depending on allocation of time to support Production Engineering or Project leads
  • Assisting Engineering with the resolution of technical issues that may arise during the construction phase of a project
  • Facilitating the introduction of new and existing products and the smooth transfer of designs from prototype into production
  • Manufacture and development of engineering prototypes. Taking concept designs from Engineering and working with a number of different departments (Engineering, Machine Shop, Procurement) to create working prototypes.
  • Building and wiring test boxes to support testing and qualification activities
  • Building prototype circuit boards
  • Building prototype wiring harnesses
  • Providing support to the in-house assembly potting shop for prototype runs
  • Assisting with test setups and basic functional test activities under instruction from Engineering
  • Assisting/supporting test with the provision of special to type equipment
  • Write (initial) Assembly instructions to record the steps in the processes
  • Work with Supply Chain to support procurement of equipment and components as needed to resource project development requirements
  • Work with DFM Engineers to ensure recommendations from the prototype development are fed back into the design to improve manufacturability
  • Uphold Health & Safety Policies
  • Requirements:
  • Minimum HNC/HND level in Mechanical Engineering or relevant experience
  • Successful completion of engineering Apprenticeship preferred
  • IPC Trained
  • Proven experience of working in a manufacturing environment essential
  • Considerable knowledge and experience in manufacturing processes
  • Experience in managing projects, with a track record of delivering on time and within budget
  • Able to read and understand electronic schematics and wiring schedules, mechanical drawings, mechanical and Electronic BOMs
  • Experience of engineering development / wiring and some knowledge of electronic circuits and wiring standards
  • Use of electronic test and measurement tools such as multimeters and oscilloscopes
  • PC literate: General use of PC packages for producing drawings and wiring schematics and basic engineering drawings, estimates e.g. MS Office, VISIO etc
  • Travel to other Ultra locations, test houses and sub-contractor locations may be required
