Job Description

HR Manager / People ManagerWe are working exclusively with a well-established FMCG client looking for a HR Manager to join one of their sites in Greenford.We are looking for an experienced, pro-active and collaborative HR Manager to serve a diverse customer base across all of our clients group UK sites. This position will give the right candidate the opportunity to lead and develop a team and be seen as trusted advisor to the business. The focus of the role will be on providing a pro-active and high-quality HR service to both an Operations and Corporate Services customer base of approximately 1000 employees at all levels across the group UK sites. We’re looking for someone positive, hard-working, flexible and who can stand up to the fast-pace nature of the fresh produce industry. The right candidate will be joining and supporting a team in one of the UK’s leading fresh produce companies.This is a pivotal role that requires a HR professional who is accustomed to a fast-paced environment and the autonomy to make decisionsKey Responsibilities:

  • To lead, mentor and develop an HR team to provide an outstanding HR service to all functions of the businesses
  • Business partner members of the senior management team to drive engagement, development, efficiency and profitability across the business
  • Ensure that the HR systems remain at a standard that satisfies auditing requirements including HMRC, ETI and Sedex and UKBA
  • Managing all aspects of industrial and employee relations including Union liaison in order to ensure strong and harmonious relationships across the function and business
  • To advise, counsel and coach managers and employees to ensure consistent and fair application of HR policies, practices and procedures in line with legal requirements
  • To work closely with the wider HR team and to support the implementation of the HR strategy and transformation programme; including supporting the transition to HR systems automation
  • With the support of the HR team, to ensure the organisation adheres to effective recruitment systems and processes and to ensure sufficient resource planning for seasonal changes in workforce within budget. In addition, to review and screen applicants, shortlisting for interviews, interviewing and liaising and working with managers at each stage of the process
  • To champion and drive a strong performance management culture across the function by coaching and developing managers and employees on Performance Development Review (PDR) process; delivering PDR training to managers and employees
  • Support in the reduction of absence management and work with employees and the wider team to enhance employee well-being
  • To work with the function to understand development needs and to liaise with the Executive Chair and wider HR team and external providers to provide the appropriate solutions (e.g. Apprentice scheme, management development, etc)
  • Keep up-to-date with changes to employment law and regulations required for recruitment and compliance, and communicate to the wider team
  • To support the Executive Chair with review and roll-out of a fit-for-business reward strategy
  • To work with a range of internal and external stakeholders to deliver the annual engagement survey and work with the senior management team on the implementation of the action plan
  • To develop and ensure company is a diverse and equal opportunities employer; to write our Gender Pay Report and take actions to close the gap
  • To support with the pro-active creation of external Talent Pipelines
  • To enhance our employer brand by showcasing company achievements, culture and people initiatives through our various social media channels

  • Skills and Experience
  • Experience within a manufacturing, FMCG or logistics environment is essential
  • Significant experience in industrial and employee relations
  • Proven team management and leadership skills
  • Experience of working to provide a proactive approach to maintain positive employee relations
  • Ability to balance role as employee advocate and business partner while maintaining neutrality and credibility with the organisation.
  • Experience of working in a unionised environment and liaising with union representatives
  • Possess accurate and updated knowledge of employment law and ability to create and update HR policies and procedures
  • Experience of using HR systems and reporting is highly desirable
  • Experience of apprenticeships and the levy are advantageous
  • Strong leadership and communication skills and the ability to act independently
  • Have a strong work ethic, with a results driven and logical approach
  • Strong team player with excellent communication skills
  • Ability to coach and mentor others and to role model the company’s performance management ethos
  • Qualifications and Certificates:
  • Educated to degree level or Masters degree in Human Resources
  • CIPD qualified
  • Mobility:
  • Flexibility to travel to all group UK sites
  • Driving licence and own transport
