Job Description

Our client is a market leading family owned business that is well established within their industry and provides a top-quality service to their customer base. We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced candidate to join their HR Team in a HR Manager role, reporting to the Executive Director with the responsibility for the Group UK sites. The successful candidate will have several years experience working within an FMCG or manufacturing environment, ideally with unions, where the internal culture of the business and diversity of employees is championed. You will be a strong HR generalist who has considerable experience with Employee Relations, Performance Management and TUPE. This role works very closely with the key stakeholders and owners of the business and requires a collaborative approach with the flexibility to adapt to business change.Responsibilities:

  • To provide an outstanding HR service to all functions of the business.
  • Business partner members of the senior management team to drive engagement, development, efficiency and profitability across the business.
  • Ensure that the HR systems remain at a standard that satisfies auditing requirements including HMRC, ETI and Sedex and UKBA.
  • Managing all aspects of industrial and employee relations including Union liaison in order to ensure strong and harmonious relationships across the function and business.
  • To advise, counsel and coach managers and employees to ensure consistent and fair application of HR policies, practices and procedures in line with legal requirements.
  • To work closely with the wider HR team and to support the implementation of the HR strategy and transformation programme; including supporting the transition to HR systems automation.
  • With the support of the HR team, to ensure the organisation adheres to effective recruitment systems and processes and to ensure sufficient resource planning for seasonal changes in workforce within budget.
  • Review and screen applicants, shortlisting for interviews, interviewing and liaising and working with managers at each stage of the process.
  • To champion and drive a strong performance management culture across the function by coaching and developing managers and employees on the Performance Development Review (PDR) process; delivering PDR training to managers and employees.
  • To work with the function to understand development needs and to liaise with the Director of HR and Talent and wider HR team and external providers to provide the appropriate solutions (e.g. Apprentice scheme, management development, etc).
  • Keep up-to-date with changes to employment law and regulations required for recruitment and compliance and communicate to the wider team.
  • To ensure the HR team are undertaking wider office management duties.
  • Be a role model to junior members of the team and a brand ambassador for the business.
  • Skills & Experience:
  • CIPD qualified.
  • Educated to degree level or Masters Degree in Human Resources.
  • Experience within a manufacturing, FMCG or logistics environment is essential.
  • Considerable experience in Industrial and Employee Relations.
  • Proven team management and leadership skills.
  • Experience of working to provide a proactive approach to maintain positive employee relations.
  • Ability to balance role as employee advocate and business partner while maintaining neutrality and credibility with the organisation.
  • Experience of working in a unionised environment and liaising with union representatives.
  • Possess accurate and updated knowledge of employment law and ability to create and update HR policies and procedures.
  • Experience of using HR systems and reporting is highly desirable.
  • Experience of apprenticeships and the levy are advantageous.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills and the ability to act independently is essential.
  • Have a strong work ethic, with a results driven and logical approach.
  • Strong team player with excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to coach and mentor others and to act as a consistent role model.
