Job Description

  • Role purpose The cost accountant will provide leadership in cost management; labour and absorption management. To support the FC in calculating annual overhead and labour rates with incremental updates. Produce timely and insightful information and managing the monthend and yearend close process.ScopeEnsure efficient, effective and complaint delivery of monthly labour and overhead forecast and weekly absorption flash.Responsible for / Key responsibilities
  • Support team in maintaining financial records and systems in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and are compliant with local and governmental reporting requirements and that provisioning is appropriate for the level of risk.
  • Lead the calculation of annual labour and overhead rates and annual rates ‘true up’ based on actuals
  • Lead in delivering MoD Rates Audit in line with open book accounting requirements
  • Ensure the financial processes, systems and controls are operating effectively are appropriately robust and in line with the Group Operating Manual;delegated authorities are adhered to. Ensure audit issues are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Own creation of monthly Balance Sheet Reconciliations in line with internal policy and best practice
  • Support preparation of overhead cost reviews, focusing on opportunities to identify cost reductions;
  • Ensuring cooperation and alignment with department heads to manage and forecast overhead spend, headcount and absorption.
  • Reporting and analysis variance to forecast and budget expectations.
  • Supporting the Finance Department in continuously improving the Company’s financial controls and reporting systems includingstandardisation and best practice.
  • Liaising with internal and external customers including and internal and external auditors, where appropriate
  • Managing the preparation of the Year End packs
  • Documenting and maintaining Finance Department procedures
  • Additional duties as necessary.
  • Role requirements Able to obtain security clearances as required by the business. Able to work flexibly to meet the requirements of the role.Qualifications / skills required
  • Recognised professional accounting qualification.
  • Educated to degree standard.
  • Technically competent with impact awareness of specialist areas including foreign exchange management, controls and governance, audit, ethics and risk management. Full understanding of IAS.
  • Experienced in the defence contracting industry and government contracting regulations.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage varying workload.
  • Ability to problem solve independently and as part of a team.
  • Manage and motivate direct reports.
  • Experience in forecasting, budgeting and variance analysis.
  • IT literate – Microsoft, finance and management accounting systems, ERP systems.
