Job Description

Job title: Animal Care AssistantLocation: Great Ayton Animal CentreSalary: £18,040.40 per annum plus 4% shift allowanceHours: 35 hours (Includes working every other weekend)Closing date: Friday 27th March 2020We have an exciting opportunity for an Animal Care Assistant to join the team at Great Ayton Animal Centre. We look after cats, dogs, rabbits and other domestic animals as well as farm animals, at any one time we are caring for over 150 animals!As an Animal Care Assistant you will be providing care for all animals in the Centre, establishing good customer relations with members of the public and RSPCA staff and maintaining administration and health and safety procedures in use.What you’ll be doing:

  • Cleaning of animal accommodation for all animals to the required standard set by the RSPCA. Prepare and provide food and water for all animals in the establishment.
  • Performing regular health checks on all animals and give medical treatments as prescribed by the centres consulting Veterinary Surgeon. i.e implanting of microchips and completion of microchip records.
  • Attend to the needs of the individual animals including providing exercise/socialisation and grooming for all domestic animals within the care of the centre.
  • Communicating with supporters/adopters, staff and volunteers both face to face, by phone and email.
  • Completing all relevant animal paperwork and updating the centres computer data base for all animals held on site.
  • What you’ll have:
  • GCSE’s or equivalent qualifications
  • Previous experience of domestic animal care and handling from working in the animal care / welfare industry
  • Experience working within a team and with minimal supervision
  • Sound communication and customer care skills
  • IT literacy skills
  • A full, current driving licence
