Job Description

Post-Doctoral Researcher- BiochemistryFixed-term, 18 monthsCambridge area, UKREED Scientific are representing a major global chemical corporation based in the Cambridgeshire area. They are looking for ahighly proficient Post-Doctoral Researcher to work within their Assay Development team (Fluorescent Tags). You will be:

  • Developing and optimising variable surface density DNA based assays, including immobilisation of DNA to the surface, for the evaluation of novel bio-functionalised fluorescent nanoparticles for end-use applications.
  • Contributing to the development of protein based assays, including surface functionalization, and critically assessing proposals for their development.
About the Job
  • Developing and optimising variable surface density DNA based assays, critically analysing and reporting results, identifying trends and anomalies.
  • Developing methods to functionalise surfaces with high density arrays of DNA.
  • Supporting the development of protein based assays as required
  • Supporting material development of novel fluorescent nanoparticles
  • Identification of IP, filing of invention disclosures, and providing feedback to ensure high quality patent applications.
  • Working safely within the laboratory environment; carrying out COSHH and risk assessments of processes.
About YouEssential:
  • PhD in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biological Chemistry, or related field, or a degree with equivalent relevant work experience gained in an industrial or academic environment.
  • Experience developing and executing DNA based assays is an essential requirement, ideally with extensive knowledge of oligonucleotide immobilisation strategies to achieve variable surface densities of DNA.
Highly desirable:
  • Use of fluorescence-based materials for the detection of DNA or proteins.
  • Experience with protein based assays.
  • Methods for characterizing ligand-analyte interactions (binding kinetics, binding affinity) on surface techniques (e.g. SPR).
  • Statistical analysis methods.
  • Surface functionalisation, purification and characterisation of nanoparticles.
  • Fluorescence-based biochemical techniques (for example, microarray, cell labelling, gel electrophoresis, flow cytometry).
  • Programming experience in python or MATLAB for automation of data analysis.
