Job Description

About the Role:The role is to assist and produce a range of food stuff and beverages for the home, maintaining Health and Safety and food hygiene standards. Preparation of drinks trays as required for meetings and other events held at the Home.You will need to maintain an awareness of the specific needs of individuals e.g. vegetarians, controlled diets and ethnic minority groups.Training, DBS and referencing will need to be completed.Opus, on behalf of Peterborough County Council are looking to recruit temporary Kitchen assistants. Working through Opus, you will offer support to the chef and work in a team member way which supports colleagues within the childrens home. Strict recordsmust be kept, including that of counting in and out the cutlery and crockery.The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of food hygiene and good kitchen practice. Have a working knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, nutrition, and balanced diets.This is a key role demanding an excellent standard of awareness of the special requirements associated with younger people and specific needs.Key Objectives:

  • To assist and produce a range of food stuffs and beverages for the Home.
  • To maintain an awareness of the specific needs of individuals e.g. vegetarians, controlled diets and ethnic minority groups.
  • To operate all kitchen equipment safely and to maintain security of equipment including the counting of cutlery etc after each meal. Reporting any loss of cutlery, equipment, or faults to the Business Support Co-ordinator.
  • Provide care of a high standard that always treats the children and young people with dignity and respect.
  • Assist with the process of the disposal of kitchen waste keeping records as required by the Business Support Co-ordinator.
  • To work as a team member in a way which supports colleagues within the Childrens Home having appropriate respect for race, culture and gender issues.
The skills and qualities we look for include:
  • Working knowledge of food hygiene and good kitchen practice.
  • Working knowledge of food preparation and cooking techniques.
  • Knowledge of nutrition and the provision of a balanced diet.
  • Knowledge of the operation of cleaning equipment, Health and Safety legislation and COSHH Regulations.
  • Ability to assess risk and proactively take avoidance action to ensure your own and others safety. Ability to apply related legislation.
  • Ability to work without compromising security and / or safety.
