Job Description

Rehabilitation Officer / Rehabilitation Worker (Visual Impairment) with a qualification as either a Mobility Instructor or Rehabilitation Worker and experience of working with people who are blind and partially sighted is required by a well-established Charity.SALARY: £33.129 - £37,269 per annumBENEFITS: 26 Days Holiday plus Bank Holidays. Please keep an eye out for our email.JOB OVERVIEWWe have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Rehabilitation Officer / Rehabilitation Worker (Visual Impairment), known within the organisation as a Vision Rehabilitation Specialist, with a qualification as either a Mobility Instructor or RehabilitationWorker and experience of working with people who are blind and partially sighted.The Rehabilitation Officer / Rehabilitation Worker (Visual Impairment) is trained to support visually impaired adults, helping them to develop and maintain the independence and confidence they need to progress in the home, at work, socially and help themto adjust to new situations.Through personalisation, the Rehabilitation Officer / Rehabilitation Worker (Visual Impairment) will work directly with individuals to holistically assess their needs and develop and deliver a bespoke programme of training in skills, wellbeing and copingstrategies.DUTIESYour duties and responsibilities as the Rehabilitation Officer / Rehabilitation Worker (Visual Impairment) will include:

  • Co-produce an action plan which is tailored to meet individual clients needs and goals to enable progress and maximise their independence
  • Input and maintain client records
  • Build on the information already gained from initial contact or referral information about a client
  • Identify ambitions and challenges facing each client and their families
  • Together with the client, prepare a plan to deliver outcomes, including facilitating referrals and signposting where required
  • Assess the orientation and mobility needs, (including functional vision), capabilities, abilities and skills-gaps for clients seeking to improve their mobility
  • Assess and identify the broader needs and skills gaps of the person
  • Deliver a staged training plan in line with the specific needs and capabilities related to the customers desired outcomes. Provide information to clients on alternative services and equipment available, as such needs arise
  • Be confident in advising the client on appropriate technologies to support independence and integrate technology into service delivery
  • Regularly review, evaluate and agree client skills progress and outcomes throughout training and adapt and update
  • Contribute to Fundraising initiatives assist in generating income
  • Data management/Compliance/Administration
  • Lead, inspire, train and mentor trainee staff to achieve agreed objectives within available resources
  • Use technical knowledge and experience to observe, assess and coach trainee and provide professional technical expertise

  • Qualification as either a Mobility Instructor or Rehabilitation Worker e.g. Dip HE Rehabilitation Work (Visual Impairment) or equivalent
  • Evidence of continued professional development to maintain current knowledge and experience within the field
  • Current valid UK Driving Licence, or ability to demonstrate how to complete the role without
  • Experience of working with people who are blind and partially sighted
  • Has proven skills and approaches to work with people who have additional needs
  • Instructional techniques. Orientation and mobility assessment and training
  • Low vision assessment and training
  • Effective communication skills, verbal and written
  • Has good organisation and report writing skills and a commitment to Health & Safety at work
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
