Job Description

As a Barclays Production Support Engineer, you will be joining the Group Technology Service Management team within the Technology area. In your new role, you will be instrumental in implementing and using a hybrid of development and operate skills to workacross disciplines, applying software engineering principles to eliminate repeated manual effort (Toil) and create automated, scalable and reliable services. We are currently in the early stages of implementing a hybrid working environment, which means that many colleagues spend part of their working hours at home and part in the office, depending on the nature of the role they are in. Depending on your team, typically this means that colleagues spend a minimum of between 20% to 60% of their time in the office, which could be over a week, a month or a quarter. However, some colleagues may chooseto spend more time in the office over a typical period than their role type requires. We also have a flexible working process where, subject to business needs, all colleagues globally are able to request work patterns to reflect their personal circumstances.Please discuss the detail of the working pattern options for the role with the hiring manager. What will you be doing Establishing an SRE practice/discipline within Corporate GTSM Navigating the agenda throughout the department whilst backing the wider team objectives Reducing MTTR throughout the department (Mean Time to Repair) to improve stability Driving Incident management improvements across entire suite of applications Triaging complex issues, investigating and coordinating to closure including leading triage on major incident calls Being consistently excellent at all we do and drive this mindset throughout the department - Make everything we touch better Performing Full Stack Observability throughout the department and role model how this can be used to achieve our objectives and reduce MTTR Adopting the Automation and role model on how this can be used to drive efficiencies, consistency, reduce MTTR and achieve our objectives What were looking for: Practical experience of supporting and maintaining production environments with distributed systems and highly available services Working knowledge of IT Infrastructure components (for example Linux or Windows Server OS, MS SQL or Oracle Databases, Networks, Load Balancers, Storage) Familiarity with Observability/Monitoring solutions (such as AppDynamics, Thousand Eyes, Splunk, ELK or similar) Knowledge of modern programming languages like Java and Python. Understanding of CI/CD Pipelines and Repositories, for example Jenkins and GitHub Skills that will help you in the role: SRE or DevOps model experience, however if you dont have experience but do have a passion and an understanding of what it means we would still love to hear from you Ability to work in large teams to achieve organizational goals Capability to construct SQL queries and interrogate databases Understanding of software skills such as design, development, maintenance, testing and software improvement Where will you be workingOur new state-of-the-art Campus, right in the heart of Glasgow is a hub of creative collaboration.
