Job Description

As a Barclays Lead Application Developer you will be a thought leader, seen as the SME in previous roles and with a background in developing enterprise scale applications on various hosting environments. The role involves secondments to mission criticalprogrammes throughout Barclays Group with a specific focus on engineering for resilience. You will be embedded in engineering teams, working with developers ensuring resilience patterns & development best practices are deployed within those platforms. We are currently in the early stages of implementing a hybrid working environment, which means that many colleagues spend part of their working hours at home and part in the office, depending on the nature of the role they are in. Depending on your team, typically this means that colleagues spend a minimum of between 20% to 60% of their time in the office, which could be over a week, a month or a quarter. However, some colleagues may chooseto spend more time in the office over a typical period than their role type requires. We also have a flexible working process where, subject to business needs, all colleagues globally are able to request work patterns to reflect their personal circumstances.Please discuss the detail of the working pattern options for the role with the hiring manager. What will you be doing Embedded within engineering teams across the organisation, ensuring best in class application design is baked into group wide mission critical applications Working with controls teams such as the Group Resilience Standard and building patterns and reference implementations to support those standards Progressing development practices and resilience strategy by delivering guidance, patterns, and reference implementations onto a new global developer guidance platform Conducting application assessments with confidence, structuring and leading failure mode analysis assessments across the firm to identify fault-points/modes Curating content, supported by patterns and reference implementations Acting as the subject matter expert and thought leader within the engineering team Implementing good software engineering practices What were looking for: Developers experience in implementing resilience disciplines across a full stack (code, database, network, hosting environment, security, monitoring & deployment) Experience in deploying applications across multiple datacentres/availability zones/regions Familiarity with resiliency testing techniques such as Failure Injection and Chaos Testing Knowledge of deployment techniques that limit impact of failure (e.g. blue/green & canary) and enable fast recovery with low MTTD & MTTR Inc. use of playbooks and automation Skills that will help you in the role: Knowledge of enterprise patterns, micro services and passionate view on the future direction of technology is an absolute must Extensive experience in modern SDLC strategies, Agile development, DevOps, CICD etc Good communication skills are essential as the role involves dealing with stakeholders, system owners and the departments project managers Experience in leadership Where will you be workingOur new state-of-the-art Campus, right in the heart of Glasgow is a hub of creative collaboration.
