Job Description

Our client, a highly respected public sector organisation based in East Renfrewshire, require a Housing Officer on a temporary basis for 3 to 6 months. The salary for the role is £13.23 per hour. Hours of work are Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm - 35hours per week.Main purpose of role:To investigate the circumstances of applicants who present to the Council as homeless or are threatened with homelessness, to assess and process applications in accordance with Council policy, legislation and the Code of Guidance.To deliver advice services to applicants who are either homeless or threatened with homelessness.To identify support needs and make appropriate referrals.Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

  • To receive application and enquiries from persons presenting to the Council as homeless or potentially homeless
  • To arrange appropriate temporary accommodation referral as required for applicants at the point of application
  • To refer cases to other authorities, Council departments or agencies as appropriate
  • To provide comprehensive advice and assistance to homeless persons and those threatened with homelessness in accordance with legislation
  • To assess the support needs of applicants and referral to appropriate support services
  • To complete all necessary statistical and other reports required to manage the service
  • To consult with Social Work and other agencies about clients with special support needs to ensure the best housing solutions are provided for applicants
  • To liaise with Housing Services staff in research, working groups and the management of homeless issues to improve the service provided by the Council
  • To consult with other agencies about issues surrounding homelessness and incorporate best practice into work of the Homeless Team
  • To monitor and develop the range of written material available to customers in relation to homelessness and homelessness prevention
Key Skills and Requirements:
  • Experience of working in a similar role with the Homeless/Housing Options Sector
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Able to build rapport and empathy quickly
  • Ablet to deal calmly and effectively with difficult situations
  • Good team player
