Job Description

We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Buyer to join our clients team on a 12-month contract basis. As a Buyer, you will play a crucial role in there Groundworks Company, which specialises in carrying out construction works for clientsacross various sectors, including social housing, healthcare, education, commercial, and private development.Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough market research and analysis to identify potential suppliers and subcontractors for various construction materials and services related to groundworks.
  • Source and procure high-quality materials, equipment, and subcontractor services at competitive prices, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to project schedules.
  • Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, cost, delivery, and responsiveness, and maintain positive relationships with key suppliers.
  • Negotiate favourable terms and conditions with suppliers and subcontractors, aiming for cost savings while maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and estimators to understand project requirements, specifications, and budgets, and provide procurement support throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of purchase orders, contracts, and supplier information, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Monitor market trends, pricing fluctuations, and industry developments related to construction materials and services, and make recommendations for continuous improvement and cost-effective procurement strategies.
Qualifications:
  • Proven experience as a Buyer or Procurement Specialist in the construction industry, preferably with a focus on groundworks or related areas.
  • Sound knowledge of construction materials, equipment, and subcontractor services specific to groundworks projects.
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities to evaluate supplier options and make informed decisions.
  • Proficiency in using procurement software and tools, as well as MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal teams, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • A proactive and detail-oriented mindset with a focus on delivering high-quality results.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations, industry standards, and best practices in procurement and supply chain management.
Remuneration
  • Salary £30,000 - £32,000 (Dependent on experience)
  • Monday - Thursday 08:00 - 17:00 Fridays early finish
  • 20 days holiday, including bank holidays
  • Parking on site.
