The work will be physics-basedcontrols engineering, designing algorithms, applying control theory to practical solutions with all the opportunities for creative problem solving this presents. Sample rates of 50 microseconds or less are common, so efficient design and deep understandingof embedded control will enable this engineer to produce world class robust solutions. Matlab and Simulink in conjunction with FEA/CFD tools are the go-to tools to analyze solutions and generate code, before testing and proving on powerful dynos on site hereat Gateshead. They will be inspired to solve problems, work independently or as part of a team and also be capable of self-management able to deliver high quality work to what can be tight deadlines.A Senior Controls Engineer is responsible for:

• Applying physics-based modelling of problem domain

• Applying physics-based modelling of embedded three phase motor control and electrification problem domain
• Applying LTI system identification techniques to motor control
• Implementation, development and verification of motor control algorithms (PMAC, SynRel, SRM, IM, etc) to improve cost, performance and efficiency of client products
• Research into new and novel control techniques.
• Inform and influence system design decisions of motor control systems
• Modelling motor control with wider system dependencies
• Supervision of development and development of implementation models for the purposes of auto-generated code
• Defining acceptance criteria of dynamic systems in terms of defined test processes
• Ensuring the dynamic performance of the product to meet the required acceptance criteria
• Specification of hardware sensors to meet controller sensitivity and robustness requirements
• Specification of software architectural requirements to meet the needs of embedded motor controls
• Supervision of implementation of C based controls to meet the expectation of design
• Development and support of model based auto coded methods and process flow throughout the clients organization
• Supervise and support the design and implement safety related functions to the requirements of any specified safety concept.
• Support all aspects of design and safety analysis relating to controls systems and motor control.
• Working to company quality standards

• Hands on experience of developing real - time embedded motor control algorithms.
• Extensive practical knowledge of control and implementation of three phase synchronous and asynchronous machines
• Proven track record of developing and enhancing control algorithms for deployment on a variety of microcontrollers
• Sound understanding of the effects and benefits of various voltage modulation schemes
• Practical approach to legacy solutions
• Driven by physics led understanding of time variant systems
• Practical knowledge of system identification and application of LTI control theory to real world problems
• Flexibility to travel in UK and overseas
• PhD or MSc in controls / motor control / PEMD related subject or equivalent
• Extensive experience of a commercial environment
