Job Description

Leader Education are working with an Primary SEND school in Gateshead to appoint a Primary Learning Support Assistant (SEND).This is an opportunity to work as part of a dedicated, cohesive team in supporting and educating pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in a Primary setting where children have been assessed and placed there, because mainstream school could not meet their needs. Students in this dedicated provision may have a range of difficultiessuch as autistic spectrum condition (ASC), profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), severe learning difficulties (SLD) or other complex medical conditions.Your new role involves:

  • Supporting students with SEND difficulties on a 1:1 or small group basis
  • Liaising with teachers to ensure the best possible progress for the pupil/s
  • Managing challenging behaviour when students become anxious or upset
  • Delivering fun, engaging activities and sessions
  • Building a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil/s
You need to be
  • Able to innovate and adapt when it comes to communication with learners that may be non verbal
  • Flexible and adaptable to meet the specific unique needs of SEND students
  • Creative and organised in your approach to aid learning
  • Passionate about helping students with special needs and learning difficulties
