Job Description

Specialty Doctor – Adult Community Mental Health Service Area: East MendipSomerset NHS Foundation Trust is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced psychiatrist to work as a Specialty Doctor with the Mendip Community Mental Health Team . The doctor will cover the East Mendip catchment area (Frome and Shepton Mallet). If successful in securing this role , you will be part of a well established and well resourced multi-disciplinary team, working alongside two Consultant Psychiatrists . The team is responsible for assessing and managing patients from six GP practise in the Shepton Mallet and Frome areas.The catchment area population of adults of working age for the six GP surgeries covered in this post is approximately 60,000. Two of the GP practices are in Frome; the Mendip Country Practice is based in Coleford; Oakill Surgery is located close to Radstock; and two practices are located in Shepton Mallet. The post holder will work across the six practices, taking referrals and managing cases in consultation with the two Consultants and receives supervision from them. You will be encouraged to participate in research , management and leadership roles.Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct interventions including assessment, diagnosis and treatment of mental and physical health needs through outpatients clinics in Wells and Frome and domiciliary visits as required
  • Attend weekly Mendip CMHT meetings and Local leadership group meetings
  • Work closely with the community teams to provide effective multidisciplinary and collaborative care
  • Provide visible and clear clinical leadership to the mental health service both locally and across the trust
  • Work collaboratively with the Inpatient Consultants and Ward Teams to ensure smooth transitions for patients admitted and discharged from wards in the Trust
  • Contribute to the development of community mental health services in line with best practice and nationally accredited standards
  • Undertake annual Appraisal and Job Plan reviews
  • Attend the weekly Postgraduate Medical Education programme when possible
  • On Call: There are no on-call responsibilities included in this post.Requirements:
  • 3 years post graduate experience in psychiatry, or 4 years’ experience divided between psychiatry, general practice or core medical
  • Completed foundation training or the equivalent
  • Clinical training and experience in GA psychiatry as above
  • Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of a community service
  • Experience of audit management
  • Ability to teach clinical skills
