Job Description

About the Service / DepartmentHestias Folkestone Safe Haven provides a safe space for people who feel that they are experiencing or moving towards a mental health crisis. People aged 16+ from Folkestone and Hythe can help with a range of interventions including 1-1 support and safetyplans, wellness & recovery action plans and social prescribing.Staff and volunteers will have an asset-based approach, focusing on the strengths and coping skills of people using the Haven, helping them to understand how they could use these assets to decrease their own distress and promote their wellbeing.In line with the principles of the Hestia Approach (an intervention strategy that help our service users reconcile themselves with their own intrinsic value) the Haven will be co-produced with those who use it as well as with local voluntary, statutory andcommunity-based organisations. The Haven is a warm, welcoming and non-stigmatising environment, offering a range of activities and a quiet, low sensory space to cater for individual needs and aspirations.Please see more information about our service here: https://folkestone-and-hythe-districtAbout the roleTo provide quality support and interventions to people experiencing or likely to experience a mental health crisis, as an alternative to using statutory crisis services.Some other main responsibilities of the role include:

  • To carry out individual one to one sessions with service users and, where appropriate, to support them to develop their own wellness, recovery action plan and safety plans.
  • To maintain accurate records of service user visits, support and interventions provided and any outcomes.
  • To signpost and refer to other appropriate local services to meet service user needs
  • Develop good working relationships with external stakeholders
  • Assist SU on their journey to recovery by developing and leading well-being sessions and groups
  • To assist in the promotion and development of the service.
About you
  • Understanding of the principles of recovery as an ethos and a range of recovery approaches.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, on own initiative and to oversee induction of new peer staff and volunteers.
  • Awareness of health and safety issues.
  • Ability to work at evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
  • Service opening times are: 18:00 – 23:00 Monday to Friday, 12:00 – 23:00 weekends and bank holidays.
  • Good IT skills, that includes a working knowledge of functions in MS Word, Outlook and the internet.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills and able to produce clear written correspondence in hard copy or email.
  • Ability to complete and record basic financial transactions, i.e. managing petty cash.
  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding issues and ability to address them appropriately.
  • Knowledge of relevant Mental Health legislation, in particular Care Program Approach (CPA) processes.
