Job Description

Alchemy is partnering with a leading Shipping company in their search for a Customs Clearance Team Leader.The Customs Clearance Team Leader will join the customs team based in Felixstowe, SuffolkKey Responsibilities of the Customs Clearance Team Leader include:

  • Ensure the team of Customs Coordinators complete customs entries from start to finish in a timely manner whilst actively assisting with Customs related projects
  • Provide support and assistance to the Customs Clearance team members on any customs related issues
  • Undertake training of junior members of the Customs Clearance team
  • Supervise and ensure accurate completion of all Import and Export declarations
  • Collate information for any audits, as required by HMRC
  • Ensuring statutory processes are compliant with HMRC regulations
  • Collate and present data reports for Customer and Internal Management as required
  • Record and present financial information as required to customs house brokerage
  • Complete shipping transit movement processing as required
  • Maintain quality and professional levels of customer service at all times
  • Ensure operating manuals are reviewed regularly and updated as needed
  • Stay updated and compliant on customs legislation
    • Skills required for the Customs Clearance Team Leader include:
  • Previous customs clearance entries experience is essential
  • Good knowledge of HM Revenue & Customs requirements
  • Experience of Import and Export Declarations, VAT, tariff codes and similar
  • Knowledge of Incoterms, simplified import declarations, calculation of import duty, simplified risk management, verification of origin of goods, bills of lading
  • Port system experience using Destin8, CNS or Descartes Customs Systems or similar
  • Comprehensive knowledgeable on Customs House Brokerage customs modules
  • Good IT skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Strong customer services and communication skills essential
  • Previous Staff training and / or supervision preferred
