Job Description

Quantity Surveyor Consult Construct Limited are a dynamic firm of Building Surveyors and Project Managers providing a range of professional construction services. We are based in great offices, within a beautiful country setting, just outside Faversham and based in site office 2-3 days per week elsewhere within Kent. You will need access to a vehicle.This is an exciting opportunity to work with one of our principal clients, on construction management projects. This will offer great potential for career advancement working within a positive culture, where learning and development are actively encouraged, alongside live project experience.OverviewConsult Construct work for a wide range of commercial and domestic clients, across both private and public sectors, including refurbishments, new builds and extension projects.One such project now on site, is a large scale phased development and conversion of an old office block into luxury apartments. The works consist of asbestos removal, demolition, new build steel frame, & brick work, new build houses, refurbishment & fit out, external civils, hard and soft landscaping. The Contractor is a young, growing, energetic company working on behalf of the Client rather than in a traditional main contractor’s relationship.Our main Client has secured similar sites across Kent and the rest of the UK and our preference is to employ the right candidate on the basis there will be more similar schemes ahead.This will be an important QS role which will require the ability to produce budgets for scheme up to £10m, taking the lead on Project Meetings and we envisage eventually leading to managing your own team.This position is open to an experience Quantity Surveyor, ideally someone newly Chartered or with 5+ years post graduate practical office experience, ideally with previous work experience on both Client and Contractor sides.Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Procure and manage all relevant materials and services required to deliver a project.
  • Prepare Procurement schedules.
  • Group together full packages and send out relevant drawings and specifications to contractors for pricing.
  • Prepare tender analyses for review.
  • Preparation of monthly valuations and fixed accounts.
  • Ensure that all accounts are properly and timely submitted with all necessary substantiation.
  • Ensure that up to date costs are kept on all contracts including forecasting.
  • Reporting to the Director on the overall commercial position regarding cash flow, work in progress, costing profitability, with any future amendments which may arise.
  • Identifying reasons for potential less favourable results than anticipated and taking any necessary actions to remedy the situation, using a change control procedure.
  • Ensuring all activities meet with and integrate with organisational requirements for quality, management, information security, health & safety, legislation, environmental policies and general duty of care.
  • Ensure all activities meet with legislative, regulatory, industry and client specific requirements.
  • Promote and direct the implementation of company policies in all aspects of the company’s work.
  • Raise non-conformances (e.g. over-budget issues) as appropriate.
  • Essential Requirements
  • Must have, as a minimum, a RICS Accredited Degree in Quantity Surveying.
  • 5+ years in a similar role, ideally within a Construction Consultancy firm.
  • Be self-motivated, with excellent analytical, communication and computing skills
  • Managing time and tasks efficiently to ensure delivery of services to clients, accurately and on time.
  • Possess a proactive and adaptable approach to work and have a strong team working ethos
  • Work in an organised and methodical manner, with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Strong report writing skills.
  • Be fully conversant with statutory processes and have good understanding of UK Building Regulations and Planning processes.
  • Driven to proactively move towards achieving both personal and business targets.
  • Experience of or desire to manage a small team is important, as will be training an Assistant QS.
