Job Description

A Leader for the Maintenance Engineering Team is required for an initial 12-month FTC, the role will be to ensure that all utilities, facilities and equipment used to manufacture new and existing products run in a safe, compliant and reliable manner to their maximum efficiency and output. Salary is up to £45k+bonus and usual Employee benefits.This includes effective:

  • Preventative and proactive maintenance, managing mechanical and electrical breakdowns of all site equipment; and performing instrument calibration.
  • Managing a small team of multi-skilled engineers, contractors and the engineering systems (BMS/EMS)
  • Budgetary/cost control and reporting.
  • Continuously monitoring equipment performance and identifying and implementing cost effective improvements
  • The Role
  • To lead, manage and develop the maintenance engineering team ensuring compliance to cGMP and cGEP with excellent customer and reliability/improvement focus.
  • Develop and execute and maintain an effective asset care process/programme, calibration process/programme and spares strategy in accordance with the appropriate quality standards to minimise plant downtime whilst assuring business continuity.
  • Ensure all engineering activities are completed in compliance with cGMP and develop action plans for recurring issues that are evident through downtime data analysis.
  • Ensure all appropriate documentation associated with potentially product quality impacting activities is completed in a full and complaint manner to meet cGMP and regulatory body standards.
  • Evolve and maintain safe systems of work (Risk Assessments, Method Statements, Permits to work, LOTO)
  • Conduct root cause investigations into equipment and process breakdowns and failures, implement effective corrective and preventive actions in order to quickly resolve outstanding issues and prevent further occurrences of a similar nature.
  • To support and contribute to the health and safety culture of the site.
  • Ensure 24/7 support for the site’s essential services is maintained at all times whilst minimising overtime.
  • Ensure appropriate onsite engineering cover to support scheduled manufacturing work patterns whilst minimising overtime.
  • Negotiate contracts, maintaining and developing effective relationships with external contractors such that support is available when required, that the work is to the appropriate standard and price (where appropriate seek process from 3 providers), taking full account of staff availability, production schedules and plant availability.
  • Ensure all department metrics are maintained in compliance (includes PPM and calibration schedule adherence, equipment uptime/downtime and departmental Quality and EHS metrics)
  • Support the preparation of (and adhere to) the departmental budget while always seeking value engineering opportunities to reduce costs.
  • Collect and present appropriate equipment performance information to maintain effective PPM and identify investment opportunities to feed into the site’s Capital Expenditure and Investment Plan.
  • To embed a measurable service relationship with the manufacturing teams and other site personnel.
  • Carry out other reasonable tasks as required by the Line Manager.
  • Education and Experience required
  • Recognised further engineering qualification - e.g. HNC/HND
  • Electrical and Mechanical maintenance supervision in a highly regulated manufacturing environment (pharma, food or automotive)
  • A high level of hands on engineering experience with manufacturing plant such as Autoclaves, cleaning systems, mixing systems, HVAC, Purified water systems and semi-automated processing equipment etc.
  • Good knowledge of computer-based maintenance planning systems, continuous improvement, risk assessment and documentation.
  • Awareness of lean and six sigma methodologies
