Job Description

Job title: Veterinary Surgeon - 12 month fixed term maternity coverStart date:3rd August 2020Location: Mallydams Wood, TN35Salary: From £38,000 plus on call allowancesHours: 35Closing date: 15th May 2020The role:We are recruiting for a Veterinary Surgeon to join us for a 12 month fixed term maternity cover contract.Mallydams Wood is a well established wildlife rehabilitation centre, education centre and woodland nature reserve in the South East of England, covering Kent, Sussex and Hampshire. Set in 55 acres of woodland nature reserve, Mallydams Wood cares for around 3,000 injured wild animals every year.This role offers an exciting and varied wildlife caseload, within a supportive team environment.The role is ideally suited to a confident, enthusiastic candidate with a willingness to "get stuck in" and an ability to work well under pressure. Good team working and excellent communication skills are vital due to being the sole Veterinary Surgeon in charge for the centre.Our provision of high quality veterinary care within a non-commercial environment results in a rewarding veterinary role with a direct, positive impact on animal welfare.What you’ll be doing:

  • You will be the sole charge vet and have overall responsibility for animals within your care in regards to their welfare and treatment
  • Undertaking a wide variety of investigative and surgical procedures for the animals in our care
  • Providing veterinary opinion on prosecution cases (training provided)
  • You will be directly responsible for the supply, usage and recording of all POM drugs held at the centre
  • You will be providing training for wildlife staff and the Inspectorate in veterinary protocols and procedures including wildlife euthansia
  • You’ll have:
  • Membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons
  • Professional approach to veterinary care and clinical practice
  • Previous experience with working with a range of wildlife
