Job Description

A well-established Manufacturer has an excellent opportunity for a Technical Lead to join the Design Team of their Contracting Division. Ideally based within a commutable distance from Exeter, however the role could potentially be home based.Our client provides a fully MCS accredited ground source heat pump installation service that fits with existing supply chains and client requirements. They can deliver a turnkey package and flexible contractual solutions.They assume responsibility for the entire project, spanning the ground array, heat pump, and heat distribution system, including sizing, design, purchasing, installation, and management of sub-contractors across the three stages of the heat pump installation.Main Purpose of Job: As Technical Lead you will perform a central role in providing technical support, advice, and document review to the Contracting design department. You will also support Contracting’s Design, Operations, and Sales teams with technical advice, problem solving,and on-site design validation.The role will entail attending client and internal technical meetings to consult on technical matters and communicate solutions to all stakeholders, collaborating at Technical Committee Meetings and Design meetings, and providing technical coaching to DesignTeam members. You will also develop, implement, and utilise a design document review protocol to ensure output standards are maintained, and review equipment and mechanical specifications to ensure a holistic technical solution.You will develop the design department procedure, process, and guidance documents, and develop and deliver technical and installation CPDs across departments.Key Tasks:

  • Troubleshooting
  • Design team-member support and coaching
  • Design project technical support
  • Technical design solution standardization
  • Technical document and design output review and guidance
  • Proposed equipment specification research and review
  • Project surveying and surveying support
  • Provision of technical support and input to the Sales team
  • Attendance of client meetings to support sales staff
  • Client Employer Requirement document review and comment
  • Liaison with the estimating team to increase feasibility quotation accuracy and interdepartmental communication.
  • Design and technical input into tender exercises
  • Presentation of technical design solutions to all stakeholders
  • On-site and Delivery Team support
  • Technical support to the Delivery team
  • On-site design validation and installation review
  • Application problem-solving and bridging between the Delivery and Design depts.
  • Project technical and design team meetings - pre- and post-handover
Essential Skills:
  • A developed understanding of building physics
  • Site-surveying experience
  • Detailed knowledge of domestic heating systems
  • A developed understanding of GSHP Systems
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in MS Excel
  • 2+ years’ experience in a similar role
Desirable Skills:
  • Experience using relevant design software packages such as AutoCAD
  • Relevant degree qualification (Engineering/Surveying)
  • Experience using Energy Modelling software packages such as HevaComp and/or IES
  • In depth knowledge of GSHP Systems
  • Electrical Engineering knowledge and experience
  • Experienced GSHP installer
  • GSHP commissioning experience
  • Experienced GSHP designer
