We are looking for an enthusiastic trainee to join our GI surgical unit at the core trainee level. The post is predominantly with the Upper GI team but will allow opportunity for training sessions with the colorectal team in both elective and emergency work. This post is ideal for anyone who has undergone some basic surgical training and wants to improve their skills and experience in order to move towards working at registrar level. The Upper GI service is very busy with a high throughput, including complex and acutely ill patients as well as routine elective and emergency Upper GI and General surgery. The Unit specialises in managing complex benign Upper GI conditions and surgery, including laparoscopic procedures for anti-reflux surgery, para-oesophageal hernia, oesophageal motility disorders, acute cholecystitis, choledocholithiasis, pancreatitis, splenic diseases, benign pancreatic and liver conditions. The Upper GI Department has a track record for innovation and research, and is one of the few centres in the UK currently offering the LINX device for reflux disease. The Unit actively participates in National Audits The appointee will have the opportunity to receive training in complex, routine and emergency Upper GI & General Surgery. Level of exposure will be tailored to the individual depending on educational needs and experience.
