Job Description

The Head Teacher of a Pupil Referral Unit located in Middlesbrough is searching for a Teaching Assistant to work within its small class groups of secondary pupils who are on permanent placement within the unit due to exclusions and challenging behaviour. This role is due to commence when schools re-open after Covid-19 in September.This role will be held on a full time basis and it will be ongoing for the duration of the first term, however there is strongpotential for this to continue further should you be successful in the role.The position will involve working with a small group of students across Key Stages 3 and 4 with varying Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties and challenging behaviours. The candidate will need to be confident in managing challenging behaviour as well as being enthusiastic and a positive role model for the students! You will be working with children from a mix of backgrounds, including children in looked after care and therefore will have an empathetic nature. You will play a large role in the monitoring of students progress and development both in terms of their academic and personal achievements and will have a responsiblity for communicating any concerns and changes in pupils.Ideally for this role, you will have experience with challenging behaviour and will be confident managing this - a Team Teach qualification or similar is extremely benefiical. We welcome applicants from a variety of backgrounds including social and youth work.
