Job Description

Exciting role as aAssistant Shipping Manager - Salary up to 33000 + BenefitsDuties and Responsibilities as a Assistant Shipping Manager

  • To negotiate freight rates from overseas origins to country of sale.
  • To be responsible for maintaining a record of all current freight costs and communicating that information to the Commercial Team for use in setting selling prices.
  • To call off goods from origin in full accordance with the purchase contract terms.
  • To monitor shipment of called-off goods and take any actions necessary to maintain the estimated shipment programme.
  • To maintain computer data of shipment progress in real-time.
  • To communicate shipment problems with the Shipping Lead.
  • To arrange clearance of all goods in full accordance with Tariffs and any quotas. Demurrage is to be avoided wherever possible.
  • Arrange inland haulage and work with Customer’s goods-in systems to ensure smooth and timely arrival at Customers.
  • Work closely with Customers to communicate any delivery issues early and devise actions to ensure the Customers’ requirements are fulfilled.
  • Evaluate the most cost-effective route/method of transporting goods from origin to Customer and adopt changes as identified necessary.
  • Manage damages to goods-in-transit and arrange debits on suppliers/shipping lines as necessary.
  • To work in full compliance with all regulations covering the range of goods handled.
  • To coordinate the shipping activities of UK, German, Indian and Chinese Offices by organising regular communications (including virtual meetings)
  • To check incoming invoices against original costings and authorise for payment.
  • To investigate any variances and resolve with the supplier prior to authorisation.
