Job Description

Residential Manager / Deputy team manager - Job SpecificationOur shift patterns are currently 12-hour shifts covering the 24-hour day. Children in our care cannot be left unsupervised as they do not have keys to the front door, only to their bedrooms.

  • Engage with children who will have Emotional Behavioural Difficulties (EBD), by providing a safe and stable home environment. Chair and minute meetings at agreed intervals.
  • Work in partnership with children, their families, peers, advocates and other multi-agency professionals associated with them.
Requirements:
  • Recent experience working either as a Childrens Home Registered Manager or if applying for the DTM position as a Childrens Home Deputy Manager in a Childrens Home willing to step up.
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management (or equivalent qualification) or working towards.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Experience in working with children and young people in residential settings.
  • Good OFSTED knowledge and experience.
  • Understanding trauma and reflective practice will contribute to the role.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Wiling to work some evening and weekends, and participate in being on-call duty.
Responsibilities:o To provide leadership and management of the home.o To maintain an in-depth knowledge of The Childrens Homes Regulations and Quality Standards, the Children Act, other relevant legislation and guidance and company policy and procedure.o To manage the home to safeguard and promote the well-being of children and young people. To ensure that the welfare of children is the paramount consideration in the provision of the service.o To help manage the homes staff team.o To manage a quality service aiming to achieve a Good or Outstanding Ofsted rating.o To provide a therapeutic environment that promotes and supports children / young peoples recovery from their abusive and traumatic life experiences.Duties:Leadership and Management of the Home.
  • To be instrumental in developing our childrens home, including staff recruitment, development, and team building.
  • To understand the ethos of our company and work to the basic principles of the organisation as set out in the organisational literature.
  • DTM - To support the manager in being responsible for the overall day-to-day running of the home. To manage practical issues, conflicts and dilemmas, undertaking direct work and providing on-call support and reporting service during your working hours.
  • To provide out-of-hours support service to the home (and any subsequent homes) on a shared rota basis with the registered manager. To be available for phone support and when required call-out support.
  • To work flexible hours if required to meet the needs of the service and children, which may involve working at short notice, sleeping-in duties, public holidays, and weekend work from time to time, and attendance on home holidays.
  • To ensure the home operates in compliance with the standards and regulations set out in the Childrens Homes Regulations and Quality standards and related guidance.
The well-being of children:
  • To contribute to the referral, assessment, and admission procedures.
  • Work professionally within the guidelines of policies, procedures, aims, objectives and the philosophy of the company with all colleagues.
  • Using our handover system; check that tasks allocated to the previous staffs shift have been completed, including audits and inspections.
  • Lead and facilitate Health & Safety checks based upon need / concern.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Offices and keep all processes up to date via electronic documenting.
  • Reporting - Possess clear communication skills and the ability to write (willingness to learn how to write) concise reports concerning residents at the appropriate level of detail and other company business.
  • Be a team player, providing person centred support, and Anti-discriminatory practice.
  • Attend and contribute to all team discussions, training / meetings, clinical / monthly supervision, and appraisals as and when required.
  • Reliable, flexible with an ability to demonstrate empathy and self-motivation.
