Job Description

Rail Engineering Track Operative ApprenticeshipIntertrain UK Ltd part of the City & Guilds Group, is a National Railway Safety Training Provider that specialises in rail apprenticeships. Intertrain are working with employers that have rail apprenticeship vacancies in Enfield (London), Doncaster, Birmingham and Warrington (Manchester).Apprenticeship AimGet your career on track and earn while you learn. The programme is designed so learners will become skilled track operatives. Successful applicants will gain the right skills and knowledge for a successful career in the rail industry.Intertrain’s Rail Engineering Operative apprenticeship is a fantastic opportunity for practically minded people. Apprentices learn fundamental skills in the railway industry by undertaking work track side, whilst developing academic skills.As part of the Apprenticeship you will be under full-time employment and will be working shifts out on track whilst gaining the rail competencies listed below. You will also gain industry specific knowledge and skills required with off the job training.Please see below the full apprenticeship course breakdown.Qualifications & Sentinel Competencies you will achieve:

  • Personal Track Safety (PTS)
  • Third Rail (DCCR)
  • Track Induction (TIC)
  • Emergency First Aid at Work
  • Manual Handling
  • Fire & Safety Awareness
  • OLEC 1
  • Level 2 Rail Engineering Technical Knowledge QualificationThis qualification is mainly classroom based. It provides you with an in depth understanding of the concepts and principles behind how the railway is constructed, why certain materials and installation practices are used and adopted.Level 2 Rail Engineering Maintenance Competence QualificationThis qualification is based around evidence which you will provide by demonstrating your skills and competence. You will also learn how to undertake practical activities safely and in line with industry standard practices.Candidates must be:- Reliable and punctual throughout- Willing to learn new knowledge- 100% committed to the programme- Good/able to work alone and as part of a team- Good at following safety instructions- Able to work under pressure as well as meet deadlines- The role is manual / labour intensive - therefore physical fitness and teamwork is important.- There is a pre-requisite Network Rail Medical examination and pre-sponsorship Drug & Alcohol (D&A) screening. Failure to pass the D&A will result in a termination of the role.- Desired but not essential - Full UK Driving licenceApprentices will be employed by rail industry employers, the following opportunities will enable individuals to progress within the rail sector:- Continued employment with the UK rail supplier you were initially provided with;- Develop your skills further by commencing a Level 3 NVQ; or- Upskill yourself within the rail sector e.g. gain additional competencies such as Lookout, OLEC 2, COSS and Machine ControllerPlease note this is a Contract of Employment based on 30 hours per week and a minimum duration of 13 months. You shall be paid a starting wage of £4.15 p/h increasing to £6.50 p/h with the opportunity to increase your wage with additional shifts. Our students learn fundamental skills in the railway industry by undertaking work trackside, whilst developing academic skills. This informative apprenticeship, once completed, will enable individuals to work on track as a Rail Track Engineer.Reference ID: Apprenticeship Required skills
