Community advisers working with the Turkish and Kurdish communities25 hours a week Contract: 1st February 2021 to 7th May 2021 plus holidaySalary dependent on locationBand 1 - £16.93Band 2 - £14.67Band 3 - £13.01Hours are flexible and need to be worked to best support the community the role works with (this will include some evening and weekend work)Use your language skills to make a difference The census is a survey of the entire population of England and Wales that happens every 10 years. It’s run by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and gives us a picture of all the people and households in England and Wales.The information we collect is used to make decisions that affect everyone – things like how many schools, surgeries and hospitals we need.To help us, we need a large field team to encourage everyone in their area to take part. The team meet people from all walks of life, gain valuable experience and play a part in improving their community’s future.The roleDo you love talking to people in the community Want to use your language skills to make a differenceThis is a fantastic opportunity to use your outreach, communication and language skills, and grow community networks.You will work with the census engagement manager in your area to create a strategy that gets everyone involved. By building relationships with prominent organisations and people, including faith and community leaders, you will raise awareness of the census, make sure everyone knows the support that’s available to them, and encourage everyone in the networks you build to take part.About youIf you enjoy talking to people and you’ve worked in community engagement or outreach before (on a paid or voluntary basis), this is the role for you. As well as being organised, engaging and great under pressure, you will need to speak both English and Turkish well enough to chat comfortably about the census.You will be at ease using smartphones and tablets, and have space at home to use as an office. You will also be travelling a lot, so access to your own car will be essential in most locations. You will need a current full UK driving licence and use of a motor vehicle (insured for business use) for which you will be paid a mileage allowance.People make the census.
