Job Description

Synthetic Chemist, Chemical Company Type: PermanentLocation: Ellesmere PortHours: Monday to Friday (days)Additional: My client offers a fantastic benefits package, which includes (but not limited to):Health cover, up to 15% pension contribution after successful probation (5% matched prior to that), upto 10% annual bonus, parking onsite etc.Russell Taylor Group is working with one of the UKs leading Chemical companies; being ideally situated in Ellesmere Port, the successful candidate will be working a key part of the R&D (small scale) - function on a range of products (e.g. additives for fuels,performance chemicals, homecare/agrochemicals etc). This impressive facility boasts state of art equipment and the successful candidate will be carrying out synthetic experimental work and new product development.Basic Role Outline:

  • Undertake and manage scientific work resulting in the development of new products as directed by the Technology Director - EMEA, Performance Chemicals EMEA
  • Develop, plan and carry out experimental laboratory programmes, without supervision, to agreed research programmes as directed by the Technology Director - EMEA, Performance Chemicals EMEA
  • Use literature searches to develop synthetic methods and mechanisms of action
  • Interpret the resulting analysis and report on findings
  • Manage projects to agreed deadlines
  • Maintain an awareness of product developments in the specific project areas
  • Carrying out synthetic experimental laboratory work as directed and collating and communicating experimental and analytical results
  • Responsible for assessing and utilising appropriate research tools on the programme
  • Contribute to longer R&D projects (or parts of projects) in order to develop new products or new applications, as part of a team
  • Maintain laboratory areas safe and tidy according to local standards and carry out COSHH and Risk Assessments as appropriate
  • Key competencies to include good problem solving capability, strong focus on deliverables and the ability to stimulate interdisciplinary teamwork
The Person:
  • Will hold a PhD in Synthetic Organic Chemistry or experience in a similar role.
  • Sound Synthetic Chemistry skills in an industrial lab is highly desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and sound written and spoken English/fluent (needed for communication across the various teams and functions).
