Overview and Responsibilities SEN Science TeacherLocation:Effingham, SurreySalary:£29,344 - £43,360 (M1UPS2London Fringe)Contract: Full time, PermanentHours: 40 hours per weekPoppyfield schoolPart of the Aurora Group the fifth-largest provider of SEN educational services in the country, supporting over 800 children and young people, and employing over 1,000 staff. We are proud to make a real difference to the lives of all the people who use our services and their families.We are looking to recruit a Science teacherto join our team of professionals in delivering education to 11-16 year olds with Special Educational needs Primarily Aurora Poppyfield School caters for children with a diagnosis of ASC, howeverwe work with a range of children with complex needs and who may also present with challenging behaviours because of their difficulties.The role / key dutiesAs our Science Teacher; your role will be to provide high quality, challenging and differentiated educational activities and sensory experiences to a small classroom of 6 or 7 students with ASD and SEMH, aged 11-16, to enable them to achieve their full potentialin all areas of learning. As an SEN teacher you will also support our children to ensure every child has the best opportunity to reach their full potential and access a variety of opportunities in a caring and safe environment.To facilitate this, youll be expected to plan and deliver lessons following the curriculum thatstailored to each studentand assist with the day to day running of the school.Additionally, youll supervise and provide support and guidance to our Teaching Assistants and Higher Level Teaching Assistants and play a key role in their Professional Development Reviews.Naturally, you will take responsibility for implementing school policies and practices, including those relating to safeguarding and equality of opportunity and will be expected to work in partnership with all school staff, parents, carers and other agenciesin providing for the academic, spiritual, moral, social, emotional and cultural well-being of students and their families.Like many SEN environments, your duties are likely to vary and therefore candidates will need to be flexible and be able to lend a hand whenever required.Duties will vary, for a full job description please contact Liz from the recruitment team:Skills and Qualifications Successful candidates will have:

• Qualified Teacher status
• Thorough working knowledge of the curriculum and how to adapt this for pupils with SEN
• Experience of working with young people with ASD, SEMH and complex needs and some severe behaviours that challenge
• An ability to implement the schools behaviour support approach, including physical intervention (accredited Team Teach) where necessary and always as a last resort Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures
• Ability to create and maintain nurturing relationships with young people
• Experience of managing a range of approaches to learning, to include the students with anxiety and ASD/SEMH.
• Knowledge of strategies and visual teaching methods to engage reluctant learners important.
• A flexible approach and a high level creativity
• Experience delivering KS3-5/late primary curriculum.
