Job Description

Senior/Principal Firmware Engineer / Edinburgh, UK / £70 per hourOur client, a global high-tech company at the forefront of Aerospace, Defence, and Security solutions are seeking a highly skilled Senior/Principal Firmware Engineer with extensive experience in FPGA technologies, specifically with Xilinx, Intel (Altera),or Microsemi (Actel) tools. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the design and development of Firmware for advanced airborne applications. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for leveraging your expertise in VHDL, SystemVerilog/UVM,and Model-Based Engineering tools to create innovative solutions.Key Responsibility Areas:

  • Design and develop VHDL-based FPGA firmware for leading-edge airborne applications.
  • Utilise advanced verification techniques such as VHDL or SystemVerilog/UVM to ensure robust designs.
  • Work within a structured firmware design process, adhering to standards like RTCA DO-254.
  • Analyse system-level requirements to derive detailed Firmware specifications.
  • Collaborate on high-speed interface design and integration, including PCIe, DDR3, and Ethernet.
  • Specify complex timing and area constraints for efficient FPGA place and route.
  • Debug firmware designs and provide support for system-related verification and integration.
Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required:
  • Degree in Electronics and Electrical Engineering, with specialisation in FPGA/Digital techniques.
  • Proven experience in creating innovative VHDL-based FPGA designs.
  • Expertise in advanced verification techniques using VHDL or SystemVerilog/UVM.
  • Familiarity with current FPGA technologies from Xilinx, Intel, or Microsemi and their tools.
  • Proficiency in Model-Driven Engineering tools, including MATLAB and Simulink.
  • Strong background in high-speed interface design and integration (PCIe, DDR3, Ethernet).
  • Ability to analyse system-level documents and derive detailed Firmware requirements.
  • Methodical approach to the full firmware design lifecycle, ideally working to standards like RTCA DO-254.
  • Experience specifying complex timing and area constraints for efficient FPGA place and route.
  • Proven ability to debug firmware designs and support system-related verification and integration.
  • Effective and flexible communication skills.
