Job Description

Our ambitious and exciting vision is to work at local, national and international levels, leading innovation and sustainable development in agriculture and rural sectors.We are looking for an environmental social scientist to work with SRUCs Thriving Natural Capital Challenge Centre on the Integrating finance and biodiversity for a nature positive future project - Aonachadh (n- ach - A) - funded by NERC. You will behelping co-produce action research on the UKs emerging voluntary biodiversity market with a range of interested parties and publics.The year-long action research project will develop methods for creating standardised, accessible, and verifiable data, metrics and tools for projects developed for voluntary biodiversity markets, and will co-create research questions and a programme of workthat can lead to a common framework for data gathering, business models, and community engagement methods that are acceptable to both supply-side projects and demand side investors. This activity will be used to develop a follow-on funding proposal for a longerpiece of work.Job Duties

  • Create written and video case study reports and films of three Scottish biodiversity uplift projects using digital data collection methods.
  • Organise and help write-up participative, facilitated workshops to elicit discussion with the Scottish Nature Finance Pioneers network.
  • Work with project rangers/ecologists to test standardised processes for authenticating, calibrating and securing digital devices used for measuring biodiversity, analyse results and recommend and write-up changes.
  • Conduct and qualitatively analyse interviews and focus groups to elicit more questions and practical issues emerging from the business models and community engagement methods in the pilot projects.
  • Support the convening of working groups with multiple interested parties to triangulate findings and elicit new research questions, with the potential for these to form the basis of a follow-on funding proposal for a longer piece of work.
  • Support the research and authoring of perspectives and journal articles and policy briefs.
  • General project management - organise the project and its reporting requirements.
