Job Description

Climate17 is delighted to be partnering with a prominent player in the energy optimisation sector.Our client focuses on trading flexible energy assets in wholesale markets, providing rapid response and reserve electricity, and is committed to advancing the renewable energy revolution and achieving net-zero goals. They have been at the forefront of developingaggregated demand-side response (DSR) and lead in terms of volume, technical capabilities, and innovation.Due to ongoing success and expansion into new markets and services, our client is seeking to hire an Energy Shift Trader. This role will be part of the existing Trading team, reporting to the Head of Trading, and will play a crucial role in supporting the companysobjective to be a leading optimisation service provider.Core Duties

  • Maximise profitability through the optimisation and dispatch of all flexible assets traded by the company, which include a variety of asset classes, such as gas and diesel peakers, batteries, and CHP sites, with potential inclusion of other asset typesin the future.
  • Actively seek opportunities to re-optimize open positions, aiming to capture increased value.
  • Execute trades related to power, gas, and carbon exposure on relevant exchanges or via trading partners.
  • Ensure market integrity and compliance with internal and external policies and regulations.
  • Regularly assess market fundamentals to inform optimisation strategies, both for internal and external customers.
  • Conduct user acceptance testing (UAT) of new systems implemented on the trading desk.
  • Ensure accurate trade allocation and scheduling of assets.
  • Encourage a culture of challenging the status quo and continuous development to enhance profitability.
Requirements
  • A degree (or equivalent), preferably in a related field, or demonstrable experience in the industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in UK energy markets, including areas such as power or gas operations or trading, spot and curve wholesale market trading, trade analytics, market analysis, energy market risk, or regulations.
  • Expertise in optimising different asset types across various markets.
  • A comprehensive understanding of drivers in wholesale energy markets and the markets typically engaged by distributed generation assets.
  • Strong understanding of wholesale market risk.
  • Strict adherence to internal and external governance.
  • A willingness to work in a 24/7 shift rotation, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ideally some familiarity with battery storage optimisation.
  • Ideally some knowledge of experience in NGESO Ancillary/Balancing services at an operational level.
  • Ideally some programming skills in Python, VBA, or SQL would be advantageous.
