Job Description

Energy AdvisorBased in Edinburgh£33,000 - £34,000 per annumReed Business Support are pleased to be working with an Edinburgh based non-profit who are looking to hire an Energy Advisor on a 12 month fixed term basis. Working as part of an important team, the successful Energy Advisor will be responsible for engagingwith households to provide advice on reducing fuel poverty and energy saving measures. This promises to be an interesting challenge and a role in which the successful candidate can feel a sense of fulfilment.

  • Mixture of field, office, and home based days
  • 35 hours per week
  • Immediate start
Key responsibilities:
  • Supporting households in identifying causes for fuel poverty and how to prevent them
  • Supporting households apply for subsidies and other streams of funding for energy bills and energy efficiency measures
  • Liaising with energy providers to help households with deals and repayment plans
  • Signposting other services for advice on debt, mental health issues, and welfare benefits problems
  • Providing advice on meter / billing options
  • Providing advice on options related to energy debt
  • Undertaking reviews with customers to better understand their circumstances
  • Providing advise and guidance to customers on energy use through telephone, group settings, office appointments, and home visits
  • Providing advice on improving heat conservation
  • Maintaining records in line with policies
  • Providing reports to management on progress and performance
  • Representing the organisation at networks, external working groups and forums
  • Undertaking administrative duties related to energy advice work
Person specifications:
  • Knowledge and experience of providing advice on sustainable energy use and fuel poverty including energy tariffs and supply options, energy dispute resolution procedures, and energy debt procedures
  • Knowledge of heating systems and how to use them effectively
  • Knowledge of grants bodies and other financial support
  • Ability to use own initiative and work independently
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain relationships
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to plan own work
  • Good IT skills - particularly MS Office
