This post presents an excellent opportunity to develop and extend core competencies in a specialist setting, supported by an experienced and enthusiastic team.The Amputee Psychology Service works closely with other professionals within the inpatient and outpatient MDT in the Astley Ainslie Hospital, based in the Sutherland Ward and the SMART centre respectively.The service provides psychological assessment, formulation and intervention for difficulties specifically related to amputation. The focus of psychological interventions includes adjustment, quality of life, coping, optimally engaging within the multidisciplinary physical rehabilitation programme, chronic pain, depressive symptoms, trauma, anxiety, and body image concerns. Interventions are offered to inpatients (before and after amputation) and outpatients. Risk and neuropsychological assessments may also be offered.The service offers liaison and consultation to the inpatient and outpatient MDT. There is also a role to provide teaching and training to the MDT. There is a potential role in providing supervision to other psychology colleagues as well as Doctoral Trainee Clinical Psychologists.Interested persons are encouraged to contact Dr Sarah Young, , or Dr Jenny Strachan, , to discuss the role.
