Job Description

Closing Date: 5th June 2022Salary: Actual salary £22,446.90 - £24,554.16 dependent on experience and qualificationsHourly rate: £12.25 - £13.40 per hour Hours: 40 hours per weekTerm Time only plus 2 weeks 40 weeks in totalThese schools are part of a UK wide group of 20 SEMH schools.These two schools are near Norwich and are growing, and due to the increase in the number of students they are looking to add a SENDCo Assistant to the team to support the main SENDCo.Both Schools provide day placements for students aged 6 to 16 years primarily with communication and interaction difficulties or specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia.Some may be on the autistic spectrum or have anxieties and difficulties that create barriers to learning.Main Purpose of the Role:Your main role will be to work with class teachers and the SEN Team to provide high quality annual reviews and interventions that prepare students for their next steps.Key Duties:Recording and Assessment

  • Set up systems for identifying, reviewing and monitoring need. This includes the management (chairing) of Annual Reviews for EHCPs
  • Keep parents informed about their childs progress through individual meetings and at parents evenings
Leadership
  • Support the main SENDCo in delivering training opportunities for learning support assistants and teachers to learn about SEN, including whole-school inset
  • Disseminate good practice in SEN across the schools
  • To support the SENDCo with the development of transition arrangements and integration into provision post-school life.
  • Liaise with the outside professionals and manage/disseminate to staff their reporting
  • To keep abreast of developments in SEN (e.g. research, changes to the law) and inform SLT and Head where appropriate
  • To attend appropriate training, CPD and conferences and provide feedback to colleagues
  • Support teaching staff in modelling good practice in teaching pupils with SEN including those with more complex needs
Other Responsibilities
  • To willingly undertake any reasonable task requested by the Head teacher and take part in the duties and extra-curricular activities of this busy school
Qualifications
  • GCSE Maths and English qualification minimum Grade 4 or equivalent is essential.
  • SENCO/Access Arrangement Assessor qualifications preferred, or the desire to acquire these.
  • Teaching qualification preferable but not essential, however teaching qualification is needed to achieve the National Award in SEND Coordination.
Skills and Experience
  • Relevant and recent knowledge and experience of pupils with SEN
  • Sound working knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice
  • Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures
  • Experience of implementing a range of approaches to behaviour, including managing behaviours that challenge
  • A person-centred approach to SEND delivery, and commitment to meet individual needs of each pupil
  • Nurture positivity and creativity in meeting pupils needs
  • Work on your own as well as part of a team
  • Work collaboratively with other staff and professionals with good interpersonal skills
  • Confidence and fluency in using appropriate terminology and language specific to the field of SEND
  • Excellent ICT skills
