Job Description

Senior Development Chemist (Polymers) c£40-55k +Benefits + Bonus Midlands ABJ4985An experienced polymer application development formulations chemist is required in product development to provide the lead and manage a mix of short and long-term development work for new and modified products in the thermosetting area. Very much a senior bench role’ and senior member of the materials development team you will be providing support and advice on both new and established products, technologies, processes to new business development, and group development functions and their customers is pivotal for future development.Key responsibilities

  • Plan, lead, manage and execute long term development and technical support activities according to the plan for the development department hands on’.
  • Develop and evaluate new products for new and existing applications, to bring them to market speedily and effectively, and to be responsible for the provision of formulations and manage the scaling up of new products.
  • Act as a company recognised technical expert in formulated materials and to apply technical knowledge and experience to answer or support inquires or projects.
  • To make decisions (informed by expert knowledge) to enable the management of all aspects of risk associated with the selection of components, formulations and processes.
  • Actively contribute towards the training and development more junior roles, promote a culture of continuous improvement and strive to provide safe, creative environment for colleagues to develop and meet their aspirations
  • Conduct literature surveys and map the scientific, technological and patent landscapes for areas of strategic interest.
  • To maintain a good understanding of potential IP and legislative implications of work carried out by the Materials Development team, and be able to either lead individual patent applications or manage internal work to challenge competitor’s patents.
  • Work with plant personnel and provide technical support and assistance as required in order to resolve production and quality issues and in support of new products.
  • Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience Required:
  • MSc or PhD in Polymer Related background or equivalent experience.
  • Strong commercial background and leadership in the field of resins, polymers, adhesives or composites.
  • Manage a small team but remaining hand on. Must enjoy being at the bench.
  • Must have a strong working knowledge and track record of thermoset formulation in the context of adhesives and/or composites.
  • Knowledge of new product development and the management of associated IP and legislative processes.
  • Demonstrated delivery of successful development projects from laboratory to production scale.
