About the teamCase Preparation and Presentation (CPP) is a multidisciplinary team mainly responsible for preparing and presenting “case to answer” cases referred to the Fitness to Practise Committee for fair and timely conclusions.About the roleThis role is offered on an initial 9 month fixed term contract. The NMC’s largest team of lawyers and paralegals prides itself on its collegiate and supportive environment. Lawyers are supported by a head and senior lawyers who provide technical supervisionand support professional development Our lawyers review and prepare fitness to practise cases as well as conducting advocacy in substantive and non-substantive hearings before our practice committees. In addition, they prepare and present High Court interimorder extension applications covering the UK’s jurisdictions as well as having the opportunity to advise on PSA and registrant appeals filed in the High Court.About youYou will be a lawyer who will already have substantial legal experience in professional regulation and who has already dealt with a range of high profile, complex cases. You will be an excellent advocate, a model of professionalism, and have experience of anda keen interest in supervising and supporting others. You will ideally have experience of PSA work as well as a wide perspective of other teams across the organisation and external stakeholders.Skills and experience requiredSubtantial experience as a qualified Solicitor or Barrister in the UK.Holder of a UK Practising Certificate/eligible to obtain a UK Practising Certificate as well as preferably higher rights of audience (civil).Substantial experience of professional regulatory work.Substantial experience of working in a politically sensitive environment and dealing with high profile, complex cases.Previous experience of supervising and/or leading projects. Strong commitment to quality assurance and development of Lawyers in the team.Excellent written and oral advocacy skills.Collaborative working with internal teams.Excellent organisational skills and ability to work on a range of different matters and cases simultaneously.Person-centred approach to daily work, including showing respect to all, listening and sensitively managing vulnerable individualsCalm under pressure and ability to work flexibly to meet changing demands and embrace/promote new strategic initiatives and changes.Strong commitment to high standards of service delivery and excellent internal and external customer care.Required skills
