• Provide expert clinical care to patients requiring general surgical interventions, including but not limited to abdominal surgeries, hernia repairs, appendectomies, cholecystectomies, and bowel resections
• Perform comprehensive pre-operative assessments, surgical procedures, and post-operative management, ensuring optimal outcomes and patient satisfaction
• Lead and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, collaborating with colleagues from various specialities to develop and implement individualized treatment plans for complex cases
• Supervise and support junior medical staff, including surgical trainees, registrars, and foundation doctors, providing mentorship, guidance, and feedback as needed
• Engage in teaching and training activities, including bedside teaching, formal lectures, and simulation-based training sessions for medical students, junior doctors, and allied health professionals
• Contribute to clinical audit, research, and quality improvement projects within the department, driving innovation and best practice in surgical care
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and clinical governance requirements
• Demonstrate a commitment to professional development and continuous learning, staying abreast of advancements in surgical techniques, technology, and evidence-based practice

Requirements:

• Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and eligibility for inclusion on the Specialist Register as a Consultant General Surgeon
• Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) or equivalent qualification, with extensive experience in general surgery and related subspecialties
• Proven track record of excellence in clinical practice, with demonstrated proficiency in a wide range of general surgical procedures and techniques
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with patients, colleagues, and other members of the healthcare team
• Strong leadership and management abilities, with experience in leading surgical teams and driving service improvement initiatives
• Commitment to delivering patient-centred care with compassion, empathy, and respect for diversity and cultural differences
• Demonstrated commitment to teaching, training, and mentorship, with a passion for education and professional development
