NHS Lanarkshire – University Hospital Hairmyres Locum Consultant in COTE with an Interest in Stroke Medicine (1 post)This post offers the opportunity for a committed and ambitious clinician to join the 24 Consultants working within Older Peoples Services, across NHS Lanarkshire.This post is based in the Department of Medicine for the Elderly, University Hospital Hairmyres, where there are currently 11 Consultant staff.Acute stroke services are provided on all 3 acute Lanarkshire hospital sites. These include stroke thrombolysis, Fast Track TIA clinics, acute assessment and rehabilitation for stroke in a dedicated ward. There are 18 integrated stroke beds within University Hospital Hairmyres, including input from a stroke specific multidisciplinary team. The regional vascular and Lanarkshire interventional radiology services are based on the Hairmyres’ site. A pan-Lanarkshire Stroke Tone Management Clinic runs weekly and involves two stroke consultants and two specialist stroke physiotherapists.NHS Lanarkshire had the shortest thrombolysis door to needle times in Scotland in the 2019 Scottish Stroke Improvement Programme Annual Report and performs well against other Stroke Standards. Our pathways are currently being redesigned as part of National Thrombectomy Service Planning.The Stroke Service has recently been awarded University Department Status and is currently recruiting to several multicenter and local research trials. There are two dedicated stroke clinical research practitioners.Dual accreditation in Geriatric Medicine and General (Internal) Medicine is an essential criterion for this post or significant experience as a Stroke physician at consultant level. The post will involve some input into the Care of the Elderly on call rota with the option of alternating this with the thrombolysis rota.
