Job Description

About the Role Talent84 Ltd is proud to be working in partnership with Curtis Instruments in their search for an Senior Embedded Software Engineer - Hybrids, to be based out of their UK Engineering Centre in Sunderland, Tyne & Wear.Reporting to the Software & Controls Lead, you will play an integral role in leading the development of hybrid control algorithms to work with internal combustion engines, including cranking, generation and boost. Working closely with diesel engine manufacturersto integrate Curtis motor controllers onto diesel engines and with motor control engineers to realise effective and efficient real-time control algorithms. Main Responsibilities

  • Follow software development cycles including software requirements capture, design capture and verification of software to these requirements
  • Lead hybrid projects to ensure hybrid requirement functions are captured, developed and validated
  • Manage software engineers and help lead projects working with external engineers.
  • Apply novel techniques and tools to improve design time, cost, reliability and functionality.
  • Participate in software design, electrical schematic and project reviews.
  • Unit testing
  • Design, code and debug real-time embedded software/firmware for new product development and sustaining projects.
  • Design, code and debug hybrid control algorithms.
  • Carry out hands on testing of hybrid control algorithms on real ICEs and ICE dyno systems.
  • Design, setup and run tests to ensure the design meets specifications.
  • Work with electronic design team to optimize logic and microprocessor circuit implementations.
  • Maintain records and documentation on all designs, tests and analysis.
  • Engineering support of a product development and continuation team.
  • Work within a small design team to complete assigned objectives.
  • Debug systems from prototypes, development, and customer returns.
About you To be considered for the role, it is essential that you possess demonstrable experience gained as a Senior Embedded Software/Firmware Engineer working within an electrical, electronics or automotive setting. You must possess demonstrable skill and experiencein algorithmic development. Candidates with experience of hybrid controls would be highly desirable. Key selection criteria
  • Bachelors degree in a relevant technical discipline .
  • Demonstrable experience in real-time embedded software programming using C and/or C++.
  • Good working experience of Matlab / Simulink
  • Expert user of emulators, in-circuit testing and software debugging tools/techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop designs to meet project costs, performance and schedules.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of control and feedback systems for power and motor control
  • Demonstrated ability to develop designs to meet project performance and schedules.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of microprocessor circuits and implementation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software analysis, documentation and design of experiments.
  • Knowledge of good engineering practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including mentoring capabilities .
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
