Job Description

Policy and Public Affairs AssistantMembership Federation Durham - Head Office - 3 Days Office, 2 Days HomeBasic Salary £28,000-£30,000 dependant on experience. Full Time, PermanentMy client a reputable and established membership federation based in Durham at the Head Office is currently looking for Policy and Public Affairs Assistant.The Role of Policy and Public Affairs AssistantTo act as a coordinator for the political agenda of the Fed and facilitate such activities for the business, under the utilisation of external consultants.Working with the Head of Marketing to develop The Fed policies and communicate them to politicians, the press, and The Fed members.Key ResponsibilitiesUpdate The Fed website daily to update and improve website content (pages, posts, banners, documents, SEO, etc), including graphics, animation, and functionality, in relation to political engagement activities.Designing, writing, and producing press releases, articles, leaflets, newsletters, and reports.Covering policy areas which The Fed are engaged in and will also include being trained to assist in the sending of email cannons and the uploading of content to The Fed website as and when required.Analysing information sources produced by the European Commission, government departments, non-government organisations (NGOs) and think tanks.Representing The Fed at meetings with other stakeholders and organisations.Monitoring and providing resources to members in the devolved assemblies and Parliaments to ensure their specific agendas are represented.Political monitoring and drafting briefings and guides to developments.Writing articles for The Fed website and district bulletins.Assisting with the organising of parliamentary receptions and other events, including for our All-Party Parliament Group.Assisting in organising The Fed programme of engagement at party conferences and other events.Simplifying policies and actions to communicate in layman terms.Answering government consultations to represent The Fed.Managing such campaigns or projects, or parts thereof, as are allocated.Being proactive in looking for opportunities to promote The Fed agenda.Person SpecificationEssentialDegree or relevant qualification(s) in Politics or Public Affairs.Good understanding of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).Good understanding and experience of British Government.Demonstrable political interest and judgement, with a commitment to neutrality and ability to work across the political spectrum.Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to adapt style to different audiences.Strong organisational skills and experience of managing a complex workload, with tight deadlines and often changing priorities.Adaptable self-starter with the ability to work remotely and in a self-directed way as part of a larger team.Google analytics experience.Broadcast experience (ability to conduct interviews and Q&As).DesirableExperience of working with/for membership organisations.Ability to quickly understand, summarise and analyse complex policy issues and distil for a range of internal and external audiences.Good influencing skills and confident managing challenging stakeholder relationships, including in coalition.Adobe editing capabilities.Reporting capabilities.To apply to this role of Policy and Public Affairs Assistant please send your CVDue to the volume of applications we are only able to contact successful applicants.
